Gov Plans To Give Phuket To Singapore

privatisation of state own companies would be a first step to lower corruption. that have to be good observed and well done.

You are obviously not talking about privatisation done "TRT style" where the government ministers ...

of course i was not talking about how it was done "TRT style", but it has to be done. and same as other cool things in life it can hurt at the first time but later so much fun. competition is sexy. without competition you become lazy and phlegmatic (just look the "my engl/am/... ex-wife" horror stories - that happen if you cancel the challange of competition)

why you ignore my main point?

if are not just plain simple antithaksin and you want lower corruption in politics, lower the influence and power of state and government. you can do that with market liberalisation and markets open for competition.

state own monopols don't have to mess in competition with others, don't have to run with effectiveness, corrupt burocrats make decision not for economic reasons but for the best kick back or in favor for a crony.

yep, now you can say all that corruption and power abuse we have seen under thaksin. thats why you need a control system. in a democracy you can control the power. law is a control sytem. parliamentary opposition is a control system, elections are a control system, the public media and the people are a control system.

a corrupt PM can brought down by law & court. the opposition can point out the corrupts, check the deals the gov is running. all have to ask every 4 years the people what they think about is. elections another control system.

military power can be a control system, but a junta is above law and parliament and open for corruption (what did all happen in the last not elected but self-appointed gov?)

civil disobedience can be a control system - now we come to the PAD. the PAD, not really an all peoples movement, but a mass movement raised the voice because they are unhappy with the gov. okay, it is their right to do so.

they say they are against corruption, fine. if the bust corrupt politican, fine well done. i think they have been go a way to far with "civil disobedience", but that's not the point here.

but can their "New Politics" lower corruption - no. and they want cancel or at least weaken democratic control mechanism like the parliamentary opposition, weaken elections as the control system. public media as a control system - they are not really open for the pluralism of opinions.

just because they delare themself as the "good people" corruption and power abuse will not happen? dreamer.

is it not the "people" but a small leader circle of a self-declared avantgarde of the "new politics" party lead just by a personal hate trip. it is not a mix of different people of society and not in a single way anything what reflects a democratic process. Announcement Number 20/2008 People’s Alliance for Democracy On “New Politics” (scroll down for english) was it public dicussed at least in between the PAD. no. is it open for public discussion? no - "It is not necessary for negotiations with any group that sees otherwise." they say.

don't look only back what thaksin have done, try to imagine what a future will bring. my point is how much more power a government has, it will be more open for corruption. there no "pure good" people, unselfishly do the best for all. altruism just another form of ego dope.

it's all business and must be open for competition.

i really don't see how "New Politics" can prevent corruption. and that all that have to be done to" blocking of evil people from coming to power"

that thaksin buy and pay for every parlamentarian, every journalist, every police men, every voter, every pro gov demonstrator, every anti PAD cult opinion on TV is just another BS same as "Gov Plans To Give Phuket To Singapore". (to be on topic)

why believe anyone tell me BS before, or act like the PAD mob. gaga, lunatic, violent, xenophobic, racist ?

"New Politics" can not ensure power abuse. period

anyone know how much tax money was paid by the thaksins.

how can taxation organised even-handed, fair and equitable? do "normal" people pay taxes devotedly or is looking for loopholes mass sport?

I stopped reading right there.

We are in Thailand, we had TRT government for six years and now we've got PPP. You are talking about some abstract concepts and implausible scenarios.

Sondhi may be right on this one. If Thailand gave Phuket and the 3 troubled Southern provinces away it might be better off for it. Thailand would certainly be better off if it gave Sondhi L. to Singapore!

You are 1,000% correct! (Except I'd like a long road tunnel under those 3 tragic privinces so that I can drive safely to Malaysia once the wall has been built).

Let's keep our heads down, cool down and get on with our own low profile lives, because there is sweet f/a we can do about any of it.

Give all this lot away, especially the clown who is now dressing up as the Prime Minister, because (all together now)............

THEY ARE TOO DAFT TO LAUGH AT!

Phuket need not be donated to invert the balance with Malaysia,

if you've drive to the borders of Malaysia it's pretty clear that

the vacation spots like Krabi and Puket are quite a ways farther NORTH,

like in hunreds of KM from boarder, and most of the real problem areas

are east coast not west coast.

In reality it would make border runs shorter and safer.

But it means a slippery slope of lost face and potential encrouchment

issues from Lao and Cambodia so it ain't happening.

Malaysia doesn't need Phuket they have Penang anyway.

Nos Singaporeans want a place to relax like they can't at home.

Phuket fits that bill fine, but it's really more fun under Thai control.

No rules to speak of, that ya cain't git round!

You keep screaming danger and all I see are partial truths and opinions that

bankrupcie laws are somehow not to be used by real men.

Was the route Sondhi took to regain solvency legal.

No one has said it wasn't. You are basing your opinion on morality and nothing else.

Fine if you like, but leveling judgments using morality in Thai business is like herding kittens,

not much to work with, it's either they are less bent or more bent,

few if any bitg players are not crooked in some form or other.

But the level of business mendacity is a better moral yard stick.

Thaksin wins hands down, and Sondhi somewhere back in the pack,

albeit with a higher profile now because he is so media savvy.

Hardly a devastating riposte. So Sondhi's a Thaksin wanabee? And you're so blind with hatred for Thaksin that you support Sondhi. Perhaps you think he's a "useful idiot", or a white knight, a tool to clean up Thai politics even?

Why would you think that, having just pointed out his Thaksin like qualities?

Do you also think PAD are operating alone? No military backing? No other party?

Stop fighting amoung yourselves. It doesn't matter what Thaksin or Sondhi thinks if Phuket Island should remains with the Kingdom of Thailand or annexed to the Republic Singapore. Both of them are not even born there.

Let the Phuket people decides their own future for themselves. Lets hole a REFERENDUM one Phuketian one vote please. (Not the 30/70 crap of PAD).

'Phuket' was never being sold to Singapore, this was just Nationailist Rhetoric.

Say something shocking or provocative to get peoples attention.

There was a large investment scheme for hostelry and a yacht bassin improvements on Phuket,

and Singpore was intended to be a big player in that. But after Temasek/Shin, Singapore became

something of a boggieman in Nationistic terms. This is 2 year old news back from the sarcophogas.

So using this out of date thread by jumping off from dated

and now useless points of reference is, well, pointless.

Sondhi Discourages Female Protesters from Approaching Him

TOC

Sondhi Limthongkul, a key PAD leader, has warned female PAD protesters not to approach him. He cited a report that indicate a heavy presence of female undercover police officers in the midst of the rally.

He asked the female PAD protesters not to approach him and warned that any female who 'rush at' or approach him will be identified as undercover police officers.

Sondhi claimed some members of the human shield that surrounded the PAD leaders last night were members of the police.

No, this is irrelevant now, this story is weeks old and never repeated,

and who gives a rats behind if he is or not.

Another desperate attempts to tar and feather him.

For no logical reason. But using any inuendo or out of date fact to try..

Yes, It matters if he is a gay or not.

Remember Anwar, he was successfully sent to jail for messing with his drivers bottom, got banned from politics for many years, and awarded a black eye courtosy of the police chief. This year, Anwar was sent to court again for messing another's man bottom.

If Sondhi is a gay, we may try to repeat the trick. :o:D:D

Wait a minute. We are all talking as if Singapore really wants Phuket. Worst, we think that Singapore would pay to get Phuket.

IMHO, Thailand will have to pay Singapore to take Phuket. Just think how much dosh Mr Lee will have to pump into Phuket to bring it up to standard. It may bankrupt Republic of Singapore for a while. Also, the oversupply of Patong bar gilrs will be bad for business in Geylang.

I sudden thought of this because I finally got rid of my junk Toyopet (before the Jap rename it Toyota) rusting in my shed. At first I tried to sell it, no taker. Then I tried to give it away, no taker. FINALLY, I HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO REMOVE IT (it could no longer be tow away). :o:D:D

I don't think this means he is gay, just wants to keep the common rabble away from his illustrious self.

I didn't read about the Phuket rant before so find it helpful to confirm opinions. Just maybe other new members haven't seen it either, so what harm does revisiting it do? If you have read it already why bother coming back to whinge about others having the opportunity to read it as well? :o

New members may not know, but others may well remember, that the PAD produced very many stories illustrating corruption & nepotism in the ranks of TRT, during their weekly road-shows some 2-3 years ago.

This was so embarrassing to the government, that the then-PM dissolved the house and called for a new election, which he rigged & saw annulled subsequently, despite the fact that he could probably at that point have still won a good majority in a straight vote.

If this particular one story, revived for no apparent reason, was wrong or failed to come to pass, so what ? I don't particularly like Sondhi myself, so cannot be one of the "sondhi cheerleaders" whose whinging you refer to, but I do appreciate the way the PAD were willing to stand up & expose wrong-doing, at that time.

This willingness to throw light on corruption, amongst poo-yais of whatever political persuasion, is surely helpful to the emergence of democracy in Thailand ? Or is it better to sweep these things 'under the carpet' ?

Ah yes...the selective photos of the cute chinese thai girls vs the overweight and unflatettering photos of the DAAD women. How 'clever'.

Also, anyone notice how this 'unsubstantiated' thread runs and runs (that the PPP gov plans to sell Phuket to Singapore - I mean how ludicrous). Still, contrast that to the guy's post that was closed within a couple of days when he reported his wife's certainty that an ASTV broadcast called for the removal of foreigners out of Thailand in retaliation for their "negative" media coverage about the end to one person one vote? WOW - now there's action for ya! Sell Phuket by the bad guys ok - but don't tell them they're going to get kicked out of their expensive Phuket Condos BEFORE that sale to S'pore happens! What a joke. The reason for closure of the other thread was 'no one could confirm it' - has anyone confirmed this thread?

Nope - no bias on the Thai Visa site. Ever wonder why some 'members' (aside from the Mods) are allowed to post 'news' articles, but not the rest of us? I've asked why but received no reply. I've also complained about some mod actions before (as per the forum rules- to Admin as is the only course of action) - again no replies.

A " False Flag Fanatic" is someone paid to pretend to be a true fanatic, for propaganda purposes.

Often characterized by the a monomaniacal harping on one subject, to the exclusion of all others.

And with total rejection and lack of acknowledgment of all other points of view or presented facts.

“PM Thaksin is no saint, please do not be mistaken, but he is the best prime minister our country has ever had.”

Following Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s dropping |of all six criminal and civil |suits filed against staunch |critic Sondhi, copies of the |latter’s book – written when he was still an admirer of Thaksin – were handed out on the capital’s Silom Road.

The book quotes Sondhi as saying: “PM Thaksin is no saint, please do not be mistaken, but he is the best prime minister our country has ever had.” It is believed the book was beingThe introduction states the book’s objective is to repeat a “Muang Thai Rai Sapda” programme.
