Update and I believe something new at Penang

Featured Replies

whistling.gif I got a double entry tourist visa last year at Penang.

I just tried for another double entry today in Penang,

I was told that now only a single entry tourist visa is allowed from Penang unless you have a Malay residence card.

In other words foreigners can only get a single entry tourist visa in Penang now, no more double entries unless you have a Malaysian residence card.

I think this is a new thing, as I got a double entry in late 2014 with my U.S. passport from Penang.

Now they say that is no longer possible.

Also Penang now has a new sign that tells applicant to be able to show 40,000 Baht funds when entering Thailand. it was previously 10,000 Baht ...... now it clearly states 40,000 Baht may be requested to be shown when entering Thailand.

I believe this is only being applied to those entering over a land border crossing......they never asked me when I flew in from Malaysia to Bangkok, anyhow.

But the sign is clearly written in English that you should be prepared to show funds of 40,000 Baht when entering Thailand from Malaysia.

So you were carrying 40,000 thb in cash on your person? Or there's a sign with a rule that isn't enforced?
