Can I get another single or double entry visa after living here in Thailand for 1 and a half years n

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I have a question

and thank you for your help in advance...

As my double entry visa runs out on July 15th.

I have a visitors visa for the entire 1 year and a half I have lived in Thailand, so far.

Can I get another single or double entry visa after living here in Thailand for 1 and a half years?

Which location am I most likely to succeed at getting it?

I normally go to (pardon the spelling) Ventian in Laos.

I have heard of Savanaket being easier and more successful.

Is this true or false?

If its true, how do I best go there from ChIang Mai,

which bus(es) will get me there?

Any and all helpful details appreciated.

Any part of the procedures you recommend I do things this certain manner or that.

Like as an example,

In going to Ventian, having u.s. currency

(and though I have not lived there in over 13 years,

I am a u.s. citi en)

you can save on the cost then using Thai Baht.

Is there any difference in costs between the two locations?

Any other details which would be helpful to know, please ask.

An additional question...

Alternatively, is it easy to get a 30 day visa extention

or is it called by another name...

in simply going to Mae Sai?

Ive heard I might only get 3 / 7 days there

enough time to come back and get my packs and leave the country.

The reason I ask about the 30 days

is because I may chose or need to leave Thailand

in that time back home to New ealand.

I want the most secure visa option

in getting a new visa to be able to be here longer.

Thanks again

I have just thought of another question

Is there any new options for visas?

Have you been on tourist visas for a year and half? There is no visitor visa.

A break down of your visa history would help? How many tourist visas have your gotten already from Vientiane?

You could get a 15 day visa exempt entry at Mae Sai that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

He is a U.S. citizen so the visa exempt entry should give him 30 days.

Pardon, its called a tourist visa

I have been here since Dec 2nd

n here for 1 year and eight months.

I previously said for a year n a half, my error.

I have had a series of them

Coming over from New ealand

I am a permenent New ealand resident

though I am still I am a u.s. citi en

I received I believe 30 days upon entering.

I do not have my passport with me,

Im wondering if it was n initial 3 month visa

I then got a double entry visa from Vientiane

though I only used 5 months of it as I made a mistake which border to go to

then a single entry from Vientiane

then another double entry visa from Vientiane

then another double entry visa from Vientiane

Definitely, do not try Vientiane for the next visa.

A question for Ubon Joe is whether Savannakhet (being under the Vientiane embassy) would be risky. Safer might be to go to Penang for your next visa. After that break in the sequence of consecutive visas from Vientiane, it would probably be OK to use them next time.

Edited by BritTim

Savannakhet might is a visa but it might not be a 2 entry visa.

Getting a tourist visa from another location would be best.

You could get a 2 entry visa in Hanoi but you will need to show tickets of the country for each entry.

Brit Tim

Im in Pai / Ch Mai area...Penang is a long distance away I see.

Any closer suggestions?

Do I need anything in particular different from the usual in Vientiane?

If I understand correctly you are suggesting Savannakhet

though it might not be a double entry visa

it might be a single entry or ?

While not a certainty, most likely he would get a 30 day visa exempt entry at most land borders (because he was here on a visa previously). However, this will not break the unbroken sequence of tourist visas from Laos. He still really needs to consider where next to apply for a visa.

Definitely, do not try Vientiane for the next visa.

There are some other options, but probably not cheaper ones. Booking in advance, return airfare from Chiang Mai to Penang is about 6,000 baht, with no visa fee to enter Malaysia. Flying to Had Yai and taking a van to Penang from there would save a few baht. Phnom Penh is closer, but (in addition to the air fare) you will need a $30 Cambodian visa. As I mentioned earlier, the problem with going to Vientiane again is the unbroken sequence of visas from there. Thus, Penang (or Phnom Penh) is only needed this time.
