Nong Bua Lamphu in desperate search for water
THE SUNDAY NATION

30264287-01_big.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Nong Bua Lamphu waterworks office has found alternative supplies of raw water in response to a low tap-water supply.

Office manager Surachat Janthra yesterday said his office started to filter raw water from the Nong Bua pond at 2,600 cubic metres per day to combine with the pumping of water from two underground wells.

The move is to support the tap water demand of some 5,600 households in the Muang Nong Bua Lamphu Municipality.

Two other wells are there as back-up, Surachat said.

The area's original water source is Tambon Nong Bua's Huai Lao Yang Reservoir, which has a capacity of 2.2 million cubic metres.

Surachat said the reservoir had only a 10-day supply left.

In Nakhon Ratchasima's Kham Thale Sor district, water trucks were dispatched yesterday to provide water for residents in four villages in Tambon Phan Dung who had reportedly lived without tap water for almost a month.

Govt hands antiques back to Cambodia

BANGKOK, 12 July 2015 (NNT) - The government has handed several pieces of antiques back to the Cambodian counterpart.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn and Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong co-signed a memorandum of understanding on the delivery of the antiques.

The ancient items belong to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. They were discovered and confiscated by Thai excise authorities during an inspection at a sea port in 2000. The cabinet in January this year decided to return them to the Cambodian government after the bilateral procedure was completed. Theft of antiques has been rampant in Cambodia during the past decades.

Gen Tanasak said the Cambodian government voiced appreciation for the Thai government’s return of the invaluable artefacts and also expressed gratitude to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for granting scholarships to many Cambodian students.
