My wife has a settlement visa appointment in Bangkok on Friday and I've just realised I forgot to include the signed letter that I wrote in support of the application.

As I'm now in the UK I'm wondering what my options are?

1. Send a scanned copy for her to print - is that likely to be acceptable, or will it make the application less credible?

2. FedEx the document (pick up Tuesday, arrive Thursday, but costs £50).

So really the question is, can I send a signed and scanned letter, or is the original preferable? Note that bank statements etc. are all originals. Just the letter was missed.

I think that a scanned copy of your letter would be fine.

The ECO would be more interested in the content of your letter rather than if it's an original or not, and the actual documents you need to prove that the criteria has been met are originals, and that's what they'll use to assess the application.

Whilst I've never been involved in an actual settlement application, I've always included emailed letters of support with applications, never had a problem.

Thanks, that does make sense.

Before we married my wife had two visit visas accepted with my scanned supporting letters. I'd rather have sent the original and made everything look as good as possible on the settlement application, but at the end of the day the supporting letter is for information and explanation, but it's not a legal document and does not provide proof.
