My Non-Im B visa has run out but i'd like to stay as a tourist

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have left this a bit late but i'm wondering if someone might know the answer to this- any help would be appreciated.

So i'm a UK citizen, and I moved over here on a 'invitation to do business' Non-Immigrant B Visa but since moving over here I have been let go by the company who were employing me, obviously have the P60 form to show this. I've served out my month's notice but instead of heading straight back to the UK I wanted to try and do a bit more travelling in Thailand and was hoping to stay for another month (until end of August) as a tourist.

My problem is obviously I have a visa that runs out 29th July saying i'm working over here, so I don't want it to look like i'm trying to sneak into the country to work without documentation, obviously the P60 I hope covers that.

I was wondering on the best course of action to declare this extension for tourism? Can I visit the immigration bureau in Bangkok? I haven't booked a flight out of the country yet- should I do that first?

Otherwise, should I fly out of the country and come back in as a tourist? If this is only a day after my visa expires is this still ok?

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas and can help!

Many thanks,

Shea

You would be best advised to obtain a tourist visa from Vientiane,Laos.

A double entry tourist visa would provide for a stay of almost 6 months with just one border run. Each 60 day entry the visa provides can be extended at a cost of 1900 Bht at an immigration office.

The longest extension you can apply for is 7 days. You will need to leave and re-enter the country.

You will not have a problem entering the country and getting a 30 day visa exempt entry. They don't take your past visa/extension history into consideration when granting them. They only look to see if you were on an exempt entry when you left the country prior to that entry.

If you need more than 30 days you can apply for a 30 day extension at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Thank you for both of your replies.

Ubonjoe, would you say the best thing to do would be to leave Thailand on the day my visa runs out, and return the day after and that'll be ok for a visa exempt?

Many thanks.

I think you have an extension of stay not a visa.

Your extension will end the moment you leave the country and then return without a re-entry permit. Returning on the same day to get a visa exempt entry would not be a problem.

I have removed a post you did in another topic since it is not needed since you did this topic.

Thanks Ubonjoe. I visited Singapore for a couple of days (20-21) and was sure i'd get a 30 day stamp but never did, this must be because I was within my visa limits (it runs out on the 29th).

So i'll leave on the 29th (to Malaysia) and come back on the 30th- this should work?

Just one more question, will I need to book flights out of the country at the end of August and have this proof with me?

If you had a valid multiple entry non-b visa from an embassy or consulate you would of gotten a 90 day entry. If on an extension of stay from immigration you must of had a re-entry permit that gave you an entry to the date your extension ends. Which do you have?

When does your extension end if you have one.

No extension, I just have a non-immigrant B visa that ends on 27th and a multiple re-entry that ends on July 29th. So I was thinking if I leave Thailand on 29th and re-enter 30th i'll get a 30 day visa exempt stamp right? I hope so!

You will get a 30 day entry without a problem since your extension and re-entry permit will of expired.

Ubonjoe, if he had a work permit, which has now been canceled would he not have 7 days to leave the country, from the date of the WP cancelation. The OP didnt mentioned it but if he worked here without a WP it would have been illegal and the company would not have issued the official P 60 form?

The 7 days has to be applied for and a 1900 baht fee paid. There is no free 7 days.

Go to the Tesco's car park at On nut bts any morning before 6.30

Mini van service to border 2300 baht all in

you will get a visa exempt no problem, You will need a whole page for the Cambodian visa and a passport size photograph

pretty painless adventure, but it is a long day normally get back to car park 5 - 6 pm

take a book or something to keep you occupied.
