You can get the latest at a very very high price from toyota. Cheaper to buy a new one and stick it on the dashboard.

It is Garmin.

It is Garmin.

Correct.

Go to Setting > (My) Maps and you'll get info about the map's name and version.

The latest map is CN Thailand NT 2015.10.

It is indeed the unreal price price Toyota wants for updated GPS map info. I have a 2009 Fortuner with the Toyota GPS system in it....quite an awesome GPS system...but as with any mapping system new roads and landmarks are built and your map data can become outdated. I think around 2012 I asked my Toyota dealership what an updated GPS mapping DVD "disc" (just the disc with the map info, not the whole hardware system) and they wanted Bt29K. Asked them again a few months later just in case there was a miscommunication...in fact the Thai wife asks them in Thai...same answer. A few years later I ask again...it's now down to Bt19K and I got that same answer about a year later. Just unreal what they charge...but I guess enough people pay that price or Toyota just don't care if they sell any updates or not.

And you would think a person might be able to find an update where in the many little shops that sell software (if you know what I mean), but no....I've looked high and low. I'll be taking my Fortuner in for a 150KM checkup in a few months....I ask again, but I'm sure I get a "you got to be kidding me price" for an update GPS mapping disc. If I do get the same answer which I'm expecting I'll just continue to use my current Toyota GPS system, which is still good for 90+ percent of the roads, combined with my memory cells and smartphone GPS to get me to those places I need to go to.

Does the Toyota-Garmin device use an SD-card? My Isuzu-Kenwood-Garmin does. I download and install the newest map myself. By the way the latest is 2015.20.

As far as I know they are modified and locked to toyota.

The best suggestion is have a look at the gps after market for the toyata made that uses SpeedNavi.

They will cost about 20000baht and fit seamlwssly and have options like tv and radio and dvd.

SpeedNavi is a branch of Hyundi. I believe they bought the company fo thei cars. They also sell updates for about 800 baht a year (generally two updates). THe map they use is the ESRI databae which is the best for here and is both thai and english. Highly recomended.
