Are Thai Police Usually Racist?

I'm South Asian. I left Thailand now, but while I was in Thailand I got stopped and frisked several times by Thai police. They asked for my ID every single time. on multiple times they searched me.

I had my bags searched thrice. Twice when going through immigration. Passport checks took far longer for me than for anyone else. Furthermore once they treated me horrendously, among other things tried to search my bags on the sidewalk and kept me waiting for 30 minutes.

Are police usually so strict? Most information online relates to Thai racism against African people.

Thank-you. I left but I dislike their treatment of me. I understand that Pakistanis have an ultra-poor image outside USA and that we are considered either lower class, or illegals/job-seekers from Pakistan. But that still does not excuse racism. I am low income myself!

I never hear about Latin Americans drug dealers being profiled as extremists, so why should we be? This will happen in every country throughout East Asia!!!!

I bet you've never been to South Carolina.

Thais look on Indians(Pakistanis Bangladeshis) in different categories. There are extremely wealthy Indians and extremely poor. There is the famous saying about an "Indian and a snake". I always remind them that Lord Buddha was Indian and Sri Ganesh etc.

OP, why did you initially call yourself South Asian instead of Pakistani? If you can't be proud of where you come from there is something wrong somewhere.

And your reference to being gay as a point of being targeted in Thailand is a moot point. It only sets you aside in your own mind as being part of an oppressed minority IMO.

Unless you are dressing in a strange manor and attracting attention on yourself, then you might have a problem....................
