I'm looking for onshore/offshore work in Thailand. i'm a fully qualified heavy goods vehicle technician that specialises in petroleum road tankers. What (if any) chance have I got on getting my foot on the ladder in this area of work? I'm 28 and from England

In Thailand forget it, if you have set your sights on offshore the North Sea is your starting point

Soutpeel is correct. You have no chance especially at the moment with the O&G situation.

You have a similar background to me and I got offshore through a friend of a friend.

If your looking for work try these. http://www.mneglobal.com/

Theyre looking for mechanics in Germany right now. Its not rotational, its a weekly salary of around £600.

Just work 3 months on and 3 weeks off here in Thailand until you get a lead to an offshore job.

James have you thought about the Seismic survey companies most employ people with your sort of background and because they operate globally you can live where you want on your off time. Just google for them and get in touch with their HR though to be honest work is tight and boats and crews are being stacked but worth a CV if you haven't already

A few to be going on with but there are many more, good luck!

There's nothing going in the Seismic surveys at the moment. Ive been doing it for nearly 10 years both on land and marine. It should pick up early next year but dont hold your breath.

James. PM me I have a huge list of contacts for Seismic survey companies. If I were in your position like I have been Id look at the work in Germany i mentioned. You need to get some working abroad experience before any Seismic company will employ you. They wont pay for your medical, training and fly you half way around the world for you to quit after 2 weeks cause you dont like it.

The land Seismic is easy to get in to but the marine is a little trickier.

At the moment with the oil price the way it is there are not a lot of openings. Having a trade is a good start and your age is OK. Before they will entertain you they will want you to have your medical and BOSIET. You did not say if you reside in Thailand. You can do both these requirements here. The OGUK medical can be done at the Bumrumgrad Hospital in Bangkok and the BOSIET somewhere outside Bangkok. Try going on 'oilcareers' there are a lot of vacancies there.

It's a case of getting them two pieces of paper and doing a good CV and keep knocking on the door's and one will eventually open. Try Mermaid Shipping in Sri Racha. They have a school there that do NDT testing course (None Destructive Testing). That could be worthwhile. You have to be careful that don't spend too much money for nothing especially if you cannot recuperate it with a decent wage.

Good look anyway.

Here is my advise, and it goes for anybody who wakes up and want to have a career in O/G.

Put up your profile on LinkedIn. Connect with recruiters and companies you like to work with. Connect with people in your field in the industry.

Sooner or later you will get an offer, when it was booming they were attacking me on a daily basis. Now its the other way around as we all know...

And as the old bats said earlier, its really good to get started in UK or Europe, before heading Intl.

Cheers and good luck.

hi guys thanks again for the replies...taking everything in that's been advised and doing my own research I think my best chance is to try and get on with a company over here in the uk first...i'll look into the linkedin as mentioned but if anyone knows of any good companies to try that would be great! thanks again

There are few onshore options here in Thailand, but it will require that you step back from income expectations. Rayong, Plueag Daeng and so on. Previous posters got it right already, not here and the business is low at moment

What options are there available here in Thailand? Im just looking to top up the beer fund until the O&G picks up again. Ive been a Chief Mechanic for land and marine seismic companies for the last 10 years.

Yeah I know, I was just interested in what fatfather had to offer, rather than looking for a job.
