August 1, 201510 yr Blue moon on Buddhist Lent Day CHIANG MAI, 1 August 2015 (NNT) – Last night the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) (NARIT) captured a picture of the “Blue Moon”, a term used to call the second full moon of the month happening on the annual religious day of Buddhist Lent Day as it was visible on Chiang Mai's skies. Thais across the country were able to experience the rare sight on the annual religious day of Buddhist Lent Day. However in some some areas heavy rains obscured the sky, especially in provinces of Sakon Nakhon, Roi Et, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Kamphaeng Phet. Meanwhile, the public in the provinces of Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Nonthaburi, were able to fully experience the beautiful and rare occasion.NARIT revealed that such an occurrence is not uncommon in the field of astronomy, as the lunar orbital period around the earth is approximately 28 days, amounting to at least one full moon per month. The previous blue moon happened on the August 31, 2012, and the next blue moon will happen on 31 January 2018 -- NNT 2015-08-01
