nidieunimaitre
No. Why? It is neither spelled that way in Thai (P-O-R-N is a transliteration, not the actual Thai word), and it is not pronounced the way that English speakers pronounce the word P-O-R-N. (I'd write the Thai, but it's against forum rules). The word can mean a number of things including the word "Blessing". And it could also be transliterated to P-O-N. So, out of cultural ignorance you equate "blessing" with "pornography", and you don't have a clue about the proper pronunciation of the word nor it's etymology? Take your cultural biases back home where they belong, or at least learn the language if you plan to stay. What an immensely ignorant post. There is currently a thread about the lack of humour on TV Forum. Check it out! And weep.

Linzz
If you were Thai and moved to the west, how would you feel about a son named " Jim"? Here in NZ with great hilarity to my Thai family our Prime Minister is John KEY and another MP is RON MARK
NanLaew
In the west would you have a problem calling your son "Dick"? Only if his best mates were called Tom and Harry.
Linzz
Maybe if he was a teenager living in the west and never came out of his room. Here not so much. Is Porn a boys name also?Yes. My brother in law is called Porn (short for Pornchai) Same, but with mine it's pronounced Ponchai
NanLaew
If I had a Thai wife who wanted to choose any name that was not mutually agreed I'd be very concerned. And some would be very concerned if you had a Thai wife...

meltingpot2015
In the west would you have a problem calling your son "Dick"? No problem in the west Dick is short for Richard, but is now very rarely used! Yep, Dick short for Richard. Will and Bill short for William. So Bill Gates is the same as Will Gates or William Gates. Willy (Willie) also short for William. Of course, anatomically, Willy is slang for dick. Edited August 6, 2015 by meltingpot2015

Mickmick
Once a few years ago I got pulled over by Customs in Sydney when they were having a crackdown on people bringing childporn into the country, they picked out 6 middle aged guys (can you say stereotyping) including me to get any phones and laptops checked for photos. At that time I had a girlfriend called Porn, and had a folder labelled "porn" on my laptop of photos of her. There was a couple of topless photos of her but otherwise just tame holiday snap stuff, but did n't the customs guy's eyes light up when he saw that folder name ! I had to explain to him that porn is a common Thai nickname. It never worried me when introducing her to friends though

Boo
Mr boo wanted to call the spawn Waraporn. I vetoed it as 1) he was going to be raised in UK & I didn't want him getting bullied 2) It's an ugly name I also wouldn't call my child a lot of common UK names for the same reason. LukKrueng
If it bothers me (or any other TV member) is not at all relevant. It's your child. The name is written in Thai พร which is basically PON, and pronounced as such since the vowel "o" is a short one (not like the โ which is a long "O" that sounds like O-O), you don't hear the R. In written Thai, some consonants change their sounding when they are the final consonant - R sounds like N, not RN. The name Siriporn (mentioned in one of the other comments) is pronounced SIRiPON (or Silipon if you insist on wrong pronunciation), but never SIRIPORN. More over, while พร is a common ending to Thai names, it is usually a nickname and not an official name, thus not written in the ID card nor passport

My lawyer Siriporn is a well educated middle class girl who speaks perfect English. She also pronounced it porn not pon.
