It is neither spelled that way in Thai (P-O-R-N is a transliteration, not the actual Thai word), and it is not pronounced the way that English speakers pronounce the word P-O-R-N. (I'd write the Thai, but it's against forum rules). The word can mean a number of things including the word "Blessing". And it could also be transliterated to P-O-N.

So, out of cultural ignorance you equate "blessing" with "pornography", and you don't have a clue about the proper pronunciation of the word nor it's etymology?

Take your cultural biases back home where they belong, or at least learn the language if you plan to stay. What an immensely ignorant post.

Once a few years ago I got pulled over by Customs in Sydney when they were having a crackdown on people bringing childporn into the country, they picked out 6 middle aged guys (can you say stereotyping) including me to get any phones and laptops checked for photos. At that time I had a girlfriend called Porn, and had a folder labelled "porn" on my laptop of photos of her. There was a couple of topless photos of her but otherwise just tame holiday snap stuff, but did n't the customs guy's eyes light up when he saw that folder name ! I had to explain to him that porn is a common Thai nickname. It never worried me when introducing her to friends though

My wife's real given name is Yupaporn

She has a friend called Porn

Another called Kittyaporn (yes real name)

all from different parts of Isaan and all pronounce as porn not pon.

My lawyer Siriporn is a well educated middle class girl who speaks perfect English. She also pronounced it porn not pon.
