Jonathan Fairfield
Censor pornography: NGO Charles Parkinson and Sen David Pornography is contributing to Cambodia’s rising problem with rape and should be subject to censorship, according to a new report from rights group Adhoc. The Report on the Situation of Women and Children’s Rights During the First Semester of 2015, released yesterday, noted that in the first six months of this year, Adhoc registered 131 cases of rape. Among those attacks, 100 were committed against underage girls, including 37 cases involving girls below the age of 10. read more: http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/censor-pornography-ngo
timmyp
The report also noted an increase in rapes being committed by men against their elderly mother-in-laws, “often older than 80 years old"... Often? Sorry to state the obvious, but an attempt at censorship isn't going to accomplish anything.

Oziex1
Is from porn or Yabba? Or are these stats part of a new freedom of reporting that may not have existed in the past

razer
Right-on Adhoc .... How much money you want? I guess you know this topic is generally known as a money spinner. No .. first 1. What kind of car does the head honcho drive? 2. How many freebie and/ salaried people do you have on staff? 3. What is the villa address? 4. What do you do besides a website and reports? Do you provide shelter and assistance? Noticed on the website ... The International Partners are ... reports from other NGOs. BuaBS
Lots of rapes during the Khmer rouge era , and then there was no internet . NGO's looking for another milkcow , to get funding ? Censored like Japan : pixillated or like Thailand : blocking of websites ? Maybe time to censor the NGO's , or better throw them out of Cambodia. soalbundy
I can't see pornography being to blame, just the world wide falling standards of behaviour, having said that i would help with the censoring.
MockingJay
I'd say that porn helped to prevent a lot of rapes, because porn would give a possible culprit had the chance to get off before he'd build up enough "pressure" to commit a rape... Seems to be a southeast asian thing to put the cart before the horse. Edited August 6, 2015 by MockingJay
MockingJay
Reminds me of this stupid urban myth, that anyone who tried weed will automatically become a heroin addict... Btw I have little to none respect of the "work" of so-called NGOs. Edited August 6, 2015 by MockingJay
pogal
Strangely enough I just read a report the other day that said the exact opposite. Until they have conclusive evidence it may be a huge mistake to do this. Or then again it could be a conclusive test case (at the possible expense of thousands) to prove whether it is a link or not to sexual crimes. I wonder if this NGO will accept responsibility of the possible consequences of ignoring all the studies that have already shown the opposite of what they are saying.Im really surprised after all these studies that no one has come up with a conclusive answer. The link between porn and crime is obviously very dynamic and has many other contributing factors.

Jimlove
Yeah I can see here in Thailand that censorship of Pornography is working - girls dont get raped here ... Not !!!
BuaBS
If porn or rape-porn causes an increase of rapes , JAPAN would be the world capital of rapes , which it isn't. ( because a large % of Jap porn is (simulated) forced/rape porn ).

I spent 2 years in PPehn and saw NGO after NGO startups - once they get their Govt money, first thing they buy is a fleet of Pajeros, then rent elaborate Villas for the NGO workers. You can see them every Saturday/Sunday morning lined up along Sisawath in front of the CCC - Cambodian Corrspondance Club - Most are old fat women from all countries that couldn't keep a husband.
