Family of 3 killed in East Pattaya Road Crash

Impatience, nothing else. They overtake at every opportunity and they can't judge the distance needed for it. Many survive just by pure luck and because everyone else breaks. BMW might give the extra push to try something that will not work.. Have plenty of footage on my dash cam of these situations.

Far too many drivers -obviously inexperienced - just will not overtake, or take around 10 seconds to summon up the courage, to overtake a truck or other slow moving vehicle on a straight piece of road with no traffic coming from the opposite direction. This causes tailbacks, frustration, and reckless driving of other drivers in the queue who will try and overtake many vehicles at one time.

Only yesterday I cursed 3 Thai drivers in the space of 5 minutes, who were still stationary in pole position at green traffic lights after 6 seconds!

Never mind 80baht lottery tickets, and drinking within 300 metres of educational establishments. The government need to prioritise righting ALL the wrongs of Thai driving, and significantly reduce the death and accident toll.

but on the other hand you can see the most astonishing Russian roulette style overtaking (almost every five minutes) near the corner of Third Road and Pattaya Klang where motorists cross over a double yellow line and race down Third Road to try to catch the green light arrow allowing them to turn right onto Pattaya Klang heading towards the beach.

the reason it's Russian roulette because there are so many tourist buses coming the opposite direction I cringe when I see them on the wrong side of the double yellow line with a great big tourist bus bearing down upon them and sometimes the motorists won't let them back in again.

I'm wondering if there's any risk vs. reward calculation going on? There seems to be a complete disregard for their own and other peoples lives. In Russian roulette you and only you pay the price but in traffic you might take few innocent lives with you.

did not see the truck ????????? can you see how big that truck is ???????????

I would't take the news article too seriously in that respect. The driver and occupants were all killed and asking them is impossible. The writer of the article seems to have added the "didn't see" statement without any supporting testimony.

Drivers that speed and pass without a clear field of view at distance, are likely to meet oncoming vehicles or stationary objects without time to react. Investigating such accidents and coming to a conclusion, consists of more than reading an article, that seems to be written by a "journalist", who wasn't there when it happened.

All that is written or spoken is not necessary factual or first hand.

How does anyone know he failed to see the truck? The poor bugger and his family are all dead and cannot speak up.

Stupid reporting once again.

If it were a farang, he would most likely have had a sudden heart attack!

RIP

such stupid reporting on my part ???????? that why I got 22 likes. have you seen how the Thais drive here or are you a newbe to Thailand?? you obviously have very limited experience here in Thailand.

Thailand does nothing to make sure drivers understand the road laws and driving etiquette and the police does nothing to stop drivers when committing infractions thus, Thai drivers don't know how to drive safely and unfortunately accidents like this happens. May these people rest in peace

Many head on collisions while trying to pass larger vision blocking vehicle. Some of this could be avoided by a universal " Passing signal " whereby the driver of the larger vehicle, knowing there is someone eager to pass signals via hand or flicking turn signals to signify okay. Police could work this out with all drivers as to specific details.

I guess you don't drive long distance in Thailand! They already do that.

Tint is a major contribution to road deaths here ,along with Visors . Malaysia banned it and death rate fell dramatically.

When did it get banned in Malaysia ?

It was revised in September last year, but not banned.

70% windscreen.

50% front doors.

30% all doors/glass.

Anyone with a brain does not force their own personal ideals onto others either.

If the tint is deemed legal it is ok and anyone wanting to fit it too their vehicles should not have to justify their decision or be demonized by some haughty old chap with failing eye sight.

Accidents are so common they even have permanent signposts for them.

It is hard to take that sign seriously when 20 metres up the road there is a kangaroo sign. There are no kangaroos on Soi Chaiyawitthiporn.

See post #84 for explanation on Kangaroo sign. The Accident Ahead sign is real.

It never ceases to scare and amaze me, the times i am overtaken on blind bends or at the blind brow of a hill. Many Thai drivers apparently have never been told of this basic road rule, which really should be common sense.

wow! you cursed only 3 drivers?!?

it's long time since I started to count how many drivers I praise each day... it's much easier to keep the count.

Strange that! i usually am the only one still standing at red lights with only 2 seconds to change, most motorcy drivers like to be away well before the light changes to green. And then there is the motorcy rider who comes behind me stopped at the red light, who just moves across the intersection, turns up against oncoming traffic and then shoots across to his left just so as not to wait on the red. But then this could only be the Koh Samui drivers who do this.

What a stupid suggestion, this would only cause more confusion and deaths. As has been pointed out, many do not yet understand the reason for double yellow lines in the centre of the road.

Perhaps you do not drive long distance in Thailand, as the truck drivers already do it. They did that in Malaya in the 70s so not a new thing.

However, I never trust them as sometimes I think they are trying to make me have an accident by indicating all clear when it's not.

As for double yellow lines, they are only on a few places and not on some essential stretches. Nearly killed by a maniac in MY right of way passing lane without a double yellow line.
