In applying to renew my driving licences, I was informed I needed a current residency certificate from immigration. To get said certificate, I was told I needed a written rental contract and a copy of my landlord's passport if falang, or ID if Thai.

I understand the Thai government is cracking down in this area due to untaxed/undeclared rental income. Is this correct?

One thing I have learned - for anything expiring, it's best to start the process of renewal a month before.

Nothing new there other than perhaps for where you are trying to get the residence certificate.

It is not a crack down on undeclared income it is just that immigration is wanting better proof of residence from people.

Have a work permit, no residency certificate required.

As for Phuket Immigration, regardless of what visa extension you hold a Registration Residence form along with evidence of the owner's ID, lease or contract Tabian Baan and copies of you Passport (visa etc) must be submitted before your stay here can be extended. I assume that is the case for all provincial Immigration offices.

Ya, and still going strong. Have had a WP since 1992.

After company sale I will stay on as a consultant, And keep my WP.

Never have to go and see the immigration people, I pay my taxes and Social Insurance.

Makes things inexpensive and easy.

Yellow book acceptable?

It depends upon the DL office you go to. Some accept it while others will only accept a certificate of residence.

A work permit has nothing to do "with visas" and is an accectable form of proof of residency at all goverment offices including phuket ergo someone with a WP doesnt need a residency letter
