A sketch of the suspected bomber is posted at the Chong Sai Tagu border checkpoint in Buri Ram province as officials try to prevent him from sneaking out of the country. The explosion claimed 20 lives and injured more than 100 people.

BANGKOK: -- THE Myawaddy-Mae Sot border has seen fewer travellers and stricter security at both ends after the deadly explosion in Bangkok on Monday.

The number of Myanmar nationals returning from Bangkok has fallen, maybe because of the heightened security, said a police officer at the Myawaddy Friendship Bridge.

A Myanmar expatriate in Mae Sot added that the vehicles entering Thailand were now being inspected more thoroughly than before.

The Myanmar Embassy in Thailand has warned migrants to be cautious. It is estimated that more than a million Myanmar nationals are working in the Kingdom.

However, Than Aye, a worker in a plastic factory in Samut Sakhon province, said: "There are no restrictions in our area. It's business as usual."

Thai police are seeking cooperation and support from Malaysian border police to help arrest the key suspect, who may have crossed the border.

Pol Colonel Kan Thamakasem, superintendent of Narathiwat immigration checkpoint, said he had given Malaysian immigration officials a sketch of the suspect and told them that there was a Bt3-million reward on his head.

Kan said he had instructed immigration officials at the Narathiwat border checkpoints of Tak Bai, Waeng and Sungai Kolok to step up checks on people crossing into Malaysia.

In Chiang Rai, immigration officials have also stepped up checks for the suspected bomber, who could use any of three routes to escape into Myanmar through Mae Sai, Chiang Saen or Chiang Khong districts.

Sketches of the suspect have been put up at the checkpoints to help the public identify him and inform the police.

Nong Khai Governor Suchart Noppawan said he had received an urgent order to step up security at all government sites and tourist attractions in his province. Four 24-hour checkpoints will be set up on major roads, and at border checkpoints, Thai and Laotian immigration officials have been instructed to step up checks for the suspect.

To little to late..if this guy was part of a plan he

Would have been to the closest boarder crossing

As soon as he got out of BKK, 4 days ago!

He's much safer going to work or university or whatever he does here as per usual than attempting to leave in the middle of the heat.... Also both probability that the police sketch doesn't look anything like the real bomber anymore

He could be walking around in plain sight and nobody would recognise him from such crap images.

Look at the photo above in the original post.

There is the sketch of the bomber suspect.

And there is a young guy in a white tee shirt, going through with everybody else.

Now, in your mind, give the suspect in the sketch a shave, a little hair trim, and take off his glasses.

Look again at the guy in the white tee shirt.

This is why many sketches like this are not useful.

TW went over to Myanmar yesterday from Maesai to get me some cheap smokes and there were long queues both ways. Usually 20 mins , yesterday over an hour and that was coming back from Tachilek.

Ah ! Mae Sai tongue.pngtongue.png ;

If you are a murderer you don't pass the border at an official point but walking in the river which is about 1 meter deep and 50 meters wide .

Left side : Thailand

Right side : Burma

Better late than never.... kinda.

yeah, the suspect has fled the country already and you think its a good idea that they now make everyone else's life more difficult?

With that logic you should work for the thai military government

No doubt sarcasm in this age was a little too subtle for you. whistling.gif
