simon43 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Not quite kids, but the way I dealt with teenagers in my classes who would not stop playing with their mobile phones or ipads etc. - Approach with a smile - Still smiling, gently take away the offending object (teenager is too surprised to resist) - Walk slowly to the rubbish bin, (stil smiling) - Smile and drop offending object into bin from a height of 1 metre - Smile at everyone and continue the lesson.... Well, it worked for me every time - my students NEVER broke the rules again
Happy Grumpy Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Lead by example, take it away and also take the computer you use away too. No more forums, downloading, researching, porn, whatever. Then spend the day happily together. You leading by example.
Youbloodybeauty Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Wi-fi? Change the password daily, hand it over things are done or whatever

Any Input put greatly appreciated. Play Doh is quite popular at present. Edited August 23, 2015 by stoneyboy
simon43 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 You can't complain about the kids when the parents are doing the same thing.. Off-topic, but having been single for quite a few years, I sometimes use the Thai dating websites to look for that perfect spouse. One of my criteria is that I am not interested in any woman who has her snout stuck in her mobile phone/LINE/Facebook all day. I'm still single
slipperylobster Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 (edited) You will just have to make yourself more interesting. Simple, eh? What will be the topic of conversation? On the brighter side...What do their parents do for fun? I hope it's not what my wife's relatives do. Basically eat and drink lao khaw. Not very interesting either. kannot Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Cricket bat....1-2 hits twice daily or as required
opalred Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 i think there should be time locks on the kids i pads so the parents have some control and be able to talk to them control amount of brainless time spent in another world and time on this planet
Anthony5 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 (edited) In the appstore is an app called Dinner time plus, available for Apple and android. It let's you remotely control the tab from the kid from anywhere in the world from your PC or smartphone.. You can limit the usage time, or restrict the time between which the Tab can be used, and even restrict particular apps from usage. It's free to download. The kid can't uninstall te app from the tab, and you get a message if he try to fiddle with the settings of the tablet. You can even block access to the settings, or any other function. In history you can follow live which app he is using or which he has used and for how long. Best app i've ever seen. Edited August 23, 2015 by Anthony5

If the parents genuinely love each other, lead an active healthy lifestyle with a lot of sports and outdoor activities, the children will definitely turn out better.

Well, it worked for me every time - my students NEVER broke the rules again Okay, allow me to "pick your brain,"....PLEASE ? My 15 Y.O. Daughter, a computer genius, insists she needs her iPad for her homework. She is in year 10 at a very reputable school, same one my wife went to but perhaps, I shouldn't name it. If daughter is doing anything in English, it's simple enough for me to cast an eye over what she has on her INFERNAL "MACHINE." Trouble is, if it is in Thai, aside from the very obvious stuff, I wouldn't have a clue! This happens early evenings when my wife is at her exercise class,so my question to you is: How much iPad related "Homework" would you expect her to have each night? Sorry, second question: Should I go and see her Class Teacher to find out about this matter, or will that result in the child being placed in the "Bad Books"? Thanks in advance.
Aussieroaming Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Maybe they are on the iPad all day because there is nothing interesting to do when visiting the OP?
utkb Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 For my 3 year old daughter the cure has been a big box of Lego's (Duplo's for her age) She now spends more time playing with these rather than trying to sneak onto youtube or playing one of the app games.

Thakkar Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Kids: best way to get them off the iPads is to buy them iPhones. You're welcome. T
kovaltech Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Lead by example, take it away and also take the computer you use away too. No more forums, downloading, researching, porn, whatever. Then spend the day happily together. You leading by example. "Lead by example" best advice ever... 1. Start with making a "house rule" setting up a "whatever you named it free zone" 2. Set up an according sign in all needed languages, eventually also in Thai deaf language or Braille 3. Enforce your house rule, gently , strictly , firmly and for all consequently... 4. Enjoy your peace ;-) possible side effects: - No more visitors bothering you... - wife leaves you - less girlfriends to deal with Other positive effects besides being happy: - Lower utilities bill - less consumption of paracetamol for the headaches... - More budgets available since nobody to entertain... not bad for starters at monday morning...
little mary sunshine Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Your house, your rules...restrict use to,1.5/2 hrs. They turn off and Play outside or other activity, if they are unwilling or complain Confiscate. Return to them when they leave. Never allow AT DINNER TIME... This goes for the adults with their cell Phones too, not allowed at dinner table.
