4 dead in France shooting, including policeman, baby

PARIS (AP) — French President Francois Hollande expressed his solidarity with victims' families Tuesday after a police officer and three other people were killed in a shootout at a Gypsy camp in northern France.

French police were called to a camp in the Somme department earlier in the day, where they were shot at and exchanged fire. Two policemen were hit by bullets — and one died, the president's statement said.

A Paris prosecutor said three members of the camp were also killed, including a baby, a woman and a "grandfather."

A police spokesman said the attacker was injured in the melee and arrested.

The circumstances surrounding the shootout were unclear.

Four dead in shootout in Roma camp in France

PARIS: -- Four people have been killed in a shootout at a Roma camp in north-eastern France, police say.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told reporters those killed "in cold blood" included a six-month-old baby, a man and a woman.

Reports said a police officer died from his wounds shortly after the incident. Another policeman were injured.

The violence took place in the northern town of Roye, about 110km (70 miles) north of Paris.

It is unclear what provoked the incident.

Who the f_$#% were the police shooting at? One of the first things you learn with firearms is what kind of barriers each of the calipers pass through.

the report said the victims were killed in "cold blood" make your own assumptions on that, before criticising the police ok,;looks like they done a good job to me, shame one of them died.

That's the life they choose,

It wasn't a policeman that was shot. It was a gendarme. Not the same thing. The gendarmes were called because there was shooting in the camp. They don't know why the chap who was very drunk suddenly went berserk, although there are witnesses that he was behaving badly in town before returning to the camp.
