Ministries of Public Health, Tourism collaborate on culinary tourism project

BANGKOK, 28 August 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports are jointly holding a culinary tourism campaign promoting clean food and markets.

Public Health Minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayathorn and Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul together launched a project entitled “Clean Food, Nice Markets”, with a view to stimulating the national economy through Thai culinary tourism. The project seeks to raise the standard of restaurants and food stalls on 17 roads as well as 13 fresh markets in 12 provinces.

Under the campaign, restaurants, street stalls and markets in the selected areas are required to pass a sanitary evaluation. They must also not sell alcoholic beverages or cigarettes while having clean toilets for customers.

Thus far, about 81 percent of restaurants and street stalls and 86 percent of fresh markets have been certified for sanitation.

The Ministries of wishful Thinking stroke again.

Clean street stalls and markets? Have they ever seen the the stalls along Sukhumvit or the Klong Toey market? It would take a major blast to clean up the mess. If they would close down all stalls with no toilets, out of 500.000 there would be only a handful left here. And why are there no toilets at MRT and BTS stations?

...they are joking,aren't they???

Has anyone ever known a food stall to have washroom and toilet facilities? Many restaurants don't even have them and none have hot water. Where do food stall employees wash their hands and the dishes without running water? Who could certify such situations?
