Hi everybody

This message is especially intended for French people who got married with a Thai citizen and who have their own experience regarding the wedding in Thailand.

Concerning the wedding itself, I went to this website : http://www.ambafrance-th.org/Etat-civil-586 and I downloaded the pdf file. The instructions are clear and I think I know everything I need to know in terms of papers. However in this pdf they mention an interview that could be done (and I think is done). I have some questions regarding this interview:

- is the interview done in Thai (or English) for my wife? Or is it done in French? Does my future wife need to speak French? if yes, what level does she need to reach?

- what kind of interview is that? or what kind of questions do they ask? Does she need to know about French culture (such as: who is the president?) or do they only ask about how we met and everything like this to know if we are cheating or not?

- do you know how long the CCAM is valid?

- do I need to stay in Thailand during this time I am waiting the CCAM?

Are you French? A national from an other EU/EEA country?

If you are French then French and immigrating to France then with your (soon to be -congratulations-) wife. As a Dutchman I have no knowledge about French family/spouse immigration. Hopefully others do.

If you are an other EU/EEA nationality and immigrating to France, then French requirements do not apply for your spouse. No language or culture test can be required, no real interview conducted etc. You would be immigrating under the Freedom of Movement directive (2004/38), which should be a smooth, fast, free, mimimum hassle procedure. I am French but I work in Germany.

What you give me is for the next step, once we are married. Currently she's not my family member, "officially" she's currently nothing related to me.

This interview was rather friendly place in an office of the Embassy of France in Bangkok. It is led by the head of the registry office that is perfectly expressed in French as in Thai. It aims to spot the scams eventuelles or too great eagerness.

You have to answer the following questions :

- Place, duration and circumstances of the encounter.

- Revenues of each

- Supports eventual children.

- Amount of the dot

- Country and place of envisaged common life

- Common language

- Usages of ceremonies: Marriage Buddha and Official.

- Your intention to transcribe this union for civil status French

That is pretty much everything.

When we married at a Thai registry office the couple after us were French/Thai, although it was the female who was French and the male Thai. Her English wasn't good but her Thai was better so her husband translated a few questions for her. There weren't any problems as the Thai official conducting the interview was a woman herself and was very sympathetic.
