Thanachart Bank robber arrested in Pattaya

BANGKOK: -- A lone gunman who allegedly robbed the Thanachart Bank’s Nawamin 9 hospital branch on August 28 has been arrested in Pattaya by metropolitan police.

Pol Lt-Gen Sivara Rangseepromkul, commissioner of metropolitan police bureau, told a press conference on Tuesday that, police arrested Somyos Supalakwatjana, 25, in Pattaya and recovered 277,860 baht in cash out of 360,000 baht the suspect robbed from the bank.

A motorcycle and the trousers the suspect wore on the day of the robbery were also seized by the police.

A part-time musician at several restaurants in Chalong Krung area and also a part-time messenger, Somyos reportedly told police that he decided to rob the Thanachart Bank;s Nawamin 9 hospital branch because he needed the money to settle debts with his friends and also because he was out of work of late.

He also said that the pistol used in the bank’s heist was a BB gun which he abandoned in a garbage bin Perfect Place housing estate in Soi Ramkhamhaeng 164. He said he then escaped to Pattaya to hide. The suspect admitted that he earlier robbed Thanachart Bank’s Soi On-nuj 52 branch and escaped with 60,000 baht in cash on July 16.

It's so different over here, as in the west you'd rarely hear the culprit actually confessing, explaining the details then even re-enacting the crime. Its almost as if they're trying to get it all in before the credits roll.

I'd rather cooperate fully and take the 50% sentence reduction, potatoes still in tact.
