BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday said the newly reshuffled posts of permanent secretaries could be reviewed if found inappropriate, but in his capacity as prime minister, he had to follow procedures proposed by the ministers and had approved the list submitted to him.

The Cabinet yesterday approved the reshuffle list of six high-ranking civil servants, including some permanent secretaries. They included permanent-secretary to the Tourism and Sports Ministry Areepong Bhoochaoom, who has been appointed as permanent-secretary to the Energy Ministry; deputy permanent-secretary to the Interior Ministry Maitree Intusut, appointed to permanent-secretary to the Social Development and Human Security Ministry; and director-general to the Forestry Department Theerapat Prayurasiddhi, who has been appointed to permanent- secretary to the Agricultural and Cooperatives Ministry.

Some posts on social media have criticised the reshuffled post of Theerapat. They viewed he was a specialist on forestry and wildlife conservation and should rather have been promoted within the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry.

Prayut said the ministries may have well considered the list before proposing it and said he trusted that executives of any ministries were capable of handling high-level management tasks, no matter what knowledge they had.

But if they do not perform well afterwards, the list could be reviewed, he said.

"he trusted that executives of any ministries were capable of handling high-level management tasks, no matter what knowledge they had"

How could he disagree with this? It is the same argument used in Thailand for years when putting washed up, out of touch army generals on the boards of major corporations. And of course for arguing that being head of the armed forces equips one to run a country and its economy.

Seems the junta is making the same mistakes all other governments did. Stupid, just look at qualifications and what people can do. I am good in my field but put me in an other field and I would have a hard time adapting.

Prayuth knows the inside story on these civil servants... he now knows the depth of corruption, But these permanent secretaries have been very smart in their cover-ups and made it too painstakingly difficult to unravel .. So , easy way out, remove them in this easy manner... switch them to new positions... Lets wait and see what happens now. They are all under the eye of the tiger..!! whistling.gif

"he trusted that executives of any ministries were capable of handling high-level management tasks, no matter what knowledge they had" Well he couldn't say anything else, after all, he's assumed he can run a country without any knowledge of doing so

Executives in ministries? Next it will be CEO prime minister?

What does a tourism minister bring to the energy ministry? Oil for suncream?

There is an argument that to be a good minister you should not be an expert in that field.

For example if you are talking about the Health department and apoint a doctor he will tend to look at it from a doctors viewpoint which for example may be that the proffesional recognition and salaries of doctors be improved rather than the health outcomes of the population should improve. A manager should be able to take all inputs and make a decision based on these on a good course to take.

Yea this is really clever. Take a Gynaecologist and have him undertake a Brain Surgeons job and all you end up with is a f****** up brain

speaking from experience?

Yes I used to be a Gynaecologist but retired but I sometimes still work as I like to keep my hand in

but seriously... we saw the NHS in England become a mess because the Tory government though it sensible to let Doctors manage hospitals. Like there is some strange and MYSTICAL transference of skills sets from one to the other. They were, mostly, CLUELESS as management is a skill that needs to be learned at Uni level

you get the point I think
