Holiday/Working Visa

Featured Replies

Hi...my son is 21 yo Australian who wishes to go to Thailand to obtain his DiveMaster Certificate and then obtain employment whilst there...a process that takes approx. 2 - 3months. He doesn't have tertiary education....what type of Visa would he best apply for...he may work for 3 months...so all up 6 - 8 months maybe a year...can anyone help. Thankyou

The the course could be undertaken using a tourist visa.

If ,after completing the course , your son wishes to work he will need to obtain a "B visa and a work permit.

He will need a work permit to work legally. It requires a non-b visa to get work permit issued.

If is only going to be attending classes he could do that on a tourist visa.

Cool thankyou....would he need to return to Australia to obtain the "B" visa and work permit?

Just to add, to get a work permit and a business visa he needs a job first.

He can get a non-B visa in neighboring country after he applies for work permit.

Tourist visas are easily obtained from a Thai Embassy/ Consulate in Australia..

To work in Thailand requires the prospective employer to apply for the Work Permit in Thailand.

A non-B visa can be obtained from a Thai Embassy/ Consulate in one of the nearby countries. The application must be supported by documentation supplied by the employer.

As above post points out...no he will not need to return to AU for new imm b. Many good consulates outside Thailand. Many threads about them in this forum.

On side note, I'm very much a novice but its posts like the OP that demonstrates how use full TV is to us needing advice. I have had some much and thankful for that.

Good luck to your son. BTW....He may not return to AU. Not only the old expats like myself love it

He should contact the school that he's doing his Divemaster course and they will help and advise which visa to get and supply the necessary paperwork.

He could do the course with a tourist visa/visas but if he wants to work he'd need a work permit. Many schools employ Divemasters on an unofficial basis under the guise of their training. I doubt he'd find any that would employ him and provide a work permit until after he's qualified and they wanted him full time.
