EC unfazed by charter draft 'no' vote
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Election Commission member Somchai Srisutthiyakorn has said the EC's work in preparing for a referendum on the draft constitution has not been affected by the National Reform Council's decision to vote down the draft.

Somchai said the EC had not signed contracts with any printing houses to prepare documents for the referendum.

He said all works, such as drafting the rules and directives for the referendum, would be suspended until the new charter-drafting committee was formed.

He said the EC had prepared regulations related to the referendum in line with the 2014 interim charter, so its work would not be in vain as long as the interim charter was not amended.

Somchai said he believed the new charter writers would review controversial points in the charter draft such as non-elected PM and the establishment of the National Strategic Reform and Reconciliation Committee.

"If these points are not changed, it means the main principles in the charter draft remain, which is hard to accept,'' he said.
