A huge drug haul worth about 300 million baht intercepted in Chumphon



CHUMPHON: -- Chumphon police seized about 100 kilogrammes of Ice worth an estimated 300 million in street price and arrested two suspects at a road block in Pathieu district on Monday.

Police manning the roadblock on the Petkasem highway in Ban Pla, Tambon Khao Chairai, stopped two cars for searches. They eventually uncovered the illicit drug hidden in specially-built compartments of the two cars.

The two drivers, identified as Songkran Omkorkun and Somchai Tachampa, were held in custody for interrogation. They two admitted that they were hired 150,000 baht to deliver the drug from Udon Thani to customers in Phatthalung province.

The two suspects also claimed that they had made about 10 drug deliveries in about one year.

They can just claim it was all for personal use...

Why not follow them to the drop off point or work the trail back to where it started?

I know many times a few 'mules' get 'fed' to the authorities so a much larger shipment can get through. If someone 'fed' a 10kgs bust, just imagine what got through. I would think this scenario is highly unlikely on this occasion. But who knows.

Unless the trail was followed, bad police work. But that won't stop the photo op. and all the back patting.

So who is the mastermind in the background, and who are the finances?
10 times they already received money.
Since there must be more details to figure out, especially when the death penalty is pending.

why not follow the shipment and get their whole network im sure the Thai police could charm the defendants into ratting out their cohorts.

100kgs is a lot and just imagine how much more is out there! I think the safest way to courier is through Suvarnabhumi customs...oh wait do they have customs there?

It is more interesting that they picked these guys up on that road in the manner they did. It is not a highway.

I have been stopped and my car searched on that road north of Chumphon, near Pathieu too, and it was clearly obvious they were looking for drugs. So maybe we just don't know everything.

300 million Baht for 100kg? That's 3000B a gram! Of all the people in Thailand, surely the police know the price of ice.

But Thais live a life so far from reality already they don't need those drugs. Perhaps they take them to ease the pressures of living in ignorance while still keeping their thainess as a LOS?

One this is sure. The police knew that stuff was coming. They never go into such a detailed search finding hidden panels unless they were tipped off

Same reason serial killers start squawking after the initial confession. I would guess that the BIB have made it crystal that if they discover more lies then they are 100% getting the needle

If they can sacrifice this much for a photo shoot and publicity bust the amounts must be truely staggering that don't get busted

Prices vary greatly i know, but that is seriously cheap junk. Prices in Australia are 400+/gram . Another reason why they have no chance.

The drugs have been released on bail.
