BANGKOK: -- A prime suspect in the Erawan shrine explosion was on Tuesday escorted by police to various crime scenes to re-enact his alleged criminal acts.

25-year old Yusufu Mierraili was first taken to Poon-anant apartment in Nong Chok and, later on, to Maimuna Garden Home apartment in Min Buri for re-enactments.

Hundreds of police were deployed during the re-enactments as safety precaution.

Pol Lt-Gen Prawut Thavornsiri, the police spokesman, said police would tomorrow ask the court to extend the detention term of Yusufu before his detention period is due to expire.

He claimed that the suspect had given useful information implicating the alleged mastermind to the police but he could not divulge any details about it.

Yusufu is held on charge of illegally possessing bomb-making materials.

As for the other wanted suspects who are still at large, the spokesman said he could not say for sure any of them are still in the kingdom or any of them have escaped out of the country.

Bangkok bombing suspect taken to scenes for re-enactment
IANS|Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- A key suspect in the August 17 deadly Bangkok bombing was on Tuesday taken to the crime scenes for re-enactment, police said.

Yusufu Mieraili, the suspect, was arrested in Thailand's Sa Kaeo province near Cambodian border on September 1.

The suspect was taken to apartment houses in the capital's eastern suburb, a spot outside Hualumpong railway station where he had handed out a backpack supposedly containing explosives, and one corner of Ratchaprasong intersection near the scene of the blast, Xinhua reported on Tuesday.

Mieraili, who was charged with possession of explosives and explosive-making materials, admitted that he had delivered the explosive-laden backpack to a Yellow-shirted Arab man.

The man placed the bomb near Erawan shrine on August 17 and the blast killed 20 people and injured more than 100 others.

He wore a bulletproof vest and was flanked by two police with automatic weapons as he entered the apartment block in handcuffs.

How would any defense lawyer let this guy do this re-enactment. He should just hang himself and get it over with.

Could it be the evidence against him is so strong it doesn't matter?

Could it be if he pleads guilty, which seems to be the intention, he will not be sentenced to death?

Second day of Erawan shrine bombing re-enactment continues amid curious crowds

9-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Police brought 25-year old Yusufu Mierraili, a prime suspect in Erawan shrine and Sathorn pier bomb explosions early this morning to re-enact his acts in both bombings, one of which left 20 dead and over 120 injured.

Under maximum security provided by over 100 anti riot policemen and plainclothes security personnel in the second day of the criminal re-enactment, he was escorted from Minburi police station first to Ratchaprasong intersection where he said he walked from Wat Pathumwanaram, passing the Royal Thai Police headquarters, to the Erawan shrine on the skywalk.

He also confessed to taking photograph from the skywalk near Central World department store after the bomb exploded, and then walking away to Pratunam.

But he denied detonating the bomb.

During the re-enactment of his acts in the bomb attack at the Erawan shrine, the police also blocked some lanes of the Ratchadamri road to Pratunam causing traffic jams during the morning rush hours.

Hundreds of curious passersby also stopped to watch the re-enactment from the skywalk and on sidewalks.

After Ratchaprasong, Yusufu was taken to Hua Lampong railway station where he confessed to deliver a backpack to the Erawan shrine bomber dressed in yellow shirt.

After today’s re-enactment, he will be brought back to Minburi where the police will seek permission from the Minburi provincial court to detain him for 12 more days for interrogation.

According to Daily News, Yusufu admitted to have known the man in blue shirt which kicked a bag into the Sathorn canal at the same day of the Erawan shrine bombing. But the bomb exploded the next morning.

It quoted investigators as saying that Yusufu disclosed a man by the name of “Ishan” or Abudusataer Abudureheman, 27, also from Xinjiang, being a mastermind.

He would tell everyone to come to a meeting at the apartment for separate assignment, Daily News said.

But he said Ishan had already left the country on August 16, one day before the Erawan shrine explosion on August 17.

Daily News also quoted military sources as saying that security agents have been closing in on both the yellow shirt and blue shirt suspects but declined to identify their places.

just saw this on Twitter...

But, he's in a yellow shirt, so he must be the Erawan bomber.

I'm not sure what role he played in the bombing. I don't believe anything he says. At the very least, he was part of the trafficked Uighur militants who were passing through Thailand, on their way to Turkey to join ISIL. He also is tied to the conspiracy to make bombs as his fingerprints were found in the room where bomb making materials were uncovered. To me, that's enough to charge him with conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts, and he deserves a good hanging. Unfortunately, the Thai criminal code is archaic, and the prosecution will be limited as to what charges they can bring against him.

What, no pictures with the cops pointing fingers at him as he sits on the crapper in one of the apartment houses saying 'and he did that every morning".

So many comments of this type nowadays, it makes TVF almost useless.

Don't be so harsh! Barely 300 jokes about pointing last month, maybe even a little less whistling.gifPfffff

This police officer is a fellow Muslim maybe blink.png

He looks remarkably relaxed every time, not a care in the world,

I don't think he's been tortured by the recent pictures, he doesn't even look like he's suffering from sleep deprivation or any thing else you might expect after a week of interrogation

Now he's smiling and joking with the police in public...

Does he think these police are his friends? Or does he understand the severity of these charges?

Maybe we need a doctor to check if he's retarded or mentally competent because this doesn't look right

Bombing Suspect Led Through 2-Day 'Re-enactment' (PHOTOS)
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — In body armor and a bright yellow T-shirt, Erawan Shrine bombing suspect Yusufu Mieraili was escorted by a phalanx of police, military and media to locations throughout the Thai capital on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning to participate in a “re-enactment” of his crimes.

Although not mandated under the legal code, crime re-enactments are a distinct ritual of Thai law enforcement. They're also media circuses which involve suspects posing for photographs, often while pointing toward things deemed relevant to the investigation or guilt of the suspect.

They're also a concern for human rights activists: Eight days since he was taken into Thai custody along the border with Cambodia, Mieraili has yet to receive any legal representation.

Here are scenes from the high-profile event and the locations visited.

Police take Mieraili to reconstruct crime scene at 12 locations

BANGKOK, 9 September 2015 (NNT) - Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thavornsiri, spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, and other police officers have taken Yusufu Mieraili, a suspect charged with possessing illegal explosive devices and involvement in the bomb blast, to conduct crime scene reconstructions for his confession at twelve locations where he committed the crime and escaped.

According to the crime scene reconstruction, Mr.Mieraili was scheduled to meet a man wearing a yellow T-shirt at Hua Lamphong railway station and gave a black backpack to him. Mr.Mieraili realized the bag contained a bomb. After the bag was handed over, Mr.Mieraili took a Tuk Tuk to Wat Pathum Wanaram.

Then he walked along the skywalk near Fountain Plaza of CentralWorld department store where he took photos and observed the explosion. After that, he went to a taxi at Soi Phetchaburi 27 requesting the driver to drop him at Hua Mak, Bangkapi District. There he withdrew money from ATM cash machine and took a public bus, fleeing to Min Buri.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut said police would take Mr.Mieraili to Min Buri Court for detention at no later than 3 p.m., to ask for the power to extend the custody.

The police spokesman said the suspect well cooperated with the police. The crime scene reconstruction was consistent with his confession and CCTV footages. Even though he did not confess of being explosive device makers but he said the bomb weighted around 3-4 kg. The police spokesman confirmed no additional charges had been made against the suspect, and the police still has no clue regarding the manipulator of the blast.

And what about all the other's who go through the same pantomime ?. Where they all clearly guilty as well ?.

Making the guy go through the motions as if he did it is a simple intent to imply guilt before a trial (and maybe let some cops have their ego massaged). One of many small reasons which add up to make Thailand a laughing stock to the rest of the world.

It's time this country joined the 21st century.
