Hi

are there Child advocates in Thailand to look after welfare of children ?

The 12 year old orphan boy is in police lock-up now and is looking at 5-6 months,

he was rounded up with his 25 year old brother by the drug police in Phuket,

Of course the police want big baht to release him , probably less or none if there was a Child welfare advocate to speak for him.....

I think the boy will go to juvenile court in the morning ,

Any ideas ? Thanks

As a minor he can't go to jail and he should be in a juvenile facility. The judge might send him to a reform school like thing or wih a good lawyer place him in some care facility or foster home.

You could contact the Pavena foundation for advice and help.

I am not in Phuket so the older brother cannot do anything to me ,

I figure they will put him in juvenile facility, that is the threat now at least from the police ,

But I hate to see a 12 year old go down in flames so young as if he is in a juvenile facility and not in school his future is pretty much over,

where would I find the Pavena foundation ? EDIT Found them but in BKK

Thanks for your advise

we have it sorted out and someone will go to the police station in the morning on behalf of the 12 year old , and at least see if its justified or another Phuket police money grab,

thanks again

Thamkrabot monastery has [or used] a juvenile facility for drug offenders on court orders. It is a great setting but rigorous in routines although hardly like a typical jail. !2 years is young but I know in the past they have taken troubled children and have a huge cohort of monks committed to social programs. They will want to see commitment however.

I am not in Phuket so the older brother cannot do anything to me?? don't be too sure about that, it is hardly likely, but it has been known for Thais to be in touch with Immigration officers to get back at some Farang who they think has done them a bad turn.

I don't believe it.

The Thai authorities have been getting tough on any

form of drug dealing, kudos for you caring but like

many of us, including me, realize we are guests in

the kingdom, not citizens so realize the ''guilty by

association'' do you think the family don't care about

the boys, someone will care but they know well enough

to back away,, up to you.

That would be my advice, can't really understand why the statement was posted? blink.png

Oh and by the way, you can post bail for him if you want to.....cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif
