BANGKOK: -- Facebook officially launched its offices in Thailand Thursday with the announcement that it was rolling out Instagram advertising to the Thai market.

Dan Neary, vice president of Facebook Asia Pacific, said the firm had set up its new offices in Thailand to take advantage of the rapid growth of social media here. The company will strengthen its support to help large and small companies achieve their business goals.

The firm is now searching for a Thai country manager to drive the Facebook and Instagram businesses here.

"The office opening builds upon our commitment to Thailand and reiterates our investment in supporting the growth of Thai business, and making it easier for consumers to connect with each other and business," Neary said.

He said Thais spent much more time of social networks than others in Southeast Asia and around the world.

Is there any growth of social media in Thailand? I thought it was saturated years ago.

If anything I would think they would try to get more people to use their messenger program instead of Line.

Great.... even more reasons for morons to block the escalators because they are playing with their "smart" phones. Connecting businesses? BS

Serious question? Data mining and advertising revenue.

Not to mention all the different businesses that run off of these platforms. Such myopic thinking around here sometimes.

I can see the headlines and also law suits. There will be people going for attitude adjustment and also so many defamation cases in courts. I still don't really believe that the majority of Thai people understand Facebook and the fact that once it is on, it is there for the whole world to se. Also people comment and its not always positive. Be very careful people.
