PHUKET: -- Nightlife venue operators have requested an expansion of the Patong entertainment zone in a letter to the Ministry of Interior that also requested a change for the closing time of their bars and clubs.

The letter, which was supported by the Kathu District Office, Patong Entertainment Business Association and a number of private nightlife venue owners, was sent after a public hearing in Patong (story here).

“We have sent many letters to the Ministry of Interior asking that these changes be made,” said Weerawit Kurasombat, president of the Patong Entertainment Business Association. “This time, however, we are supported with the results of the public hearing in Patong.”

Nah. Just say no. Enough is enough. Patong is a blight zone. It is a horrific mess. It is beyond overpriced, and the space it occupies is plenty. The last thing Patong needs is a larger version of Bangla Road.

I think this is a great idea. The nightlife on Bangla is great but more choice would be good. It's mostly just either tiger or the other tiger or discos. The bars in the other sois are usually pretty quiet.

When do the bars close?

As the above message says, sex sells.

Night life is important for both tourists and Thailand.
