BANGKOK: -- World No 1 Novak Djokovic and ninetime French Open champion Rafael Nadal will promote Thailand as a tourist destination in a daylong activity that will include shopping at OTOP and visiting the Prime Minister's Office during their Bangkok exhibition next month.

US Open champion Djokovic and Nadal will be in the capital on October 1 and 2 for the "Back to Thailand Nadal vs Djokovic" exhibition. The soldout friendly will be played on October 2 at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium.

Lawn Tennis Association president Suwat Liptapanlop said the presence of the two players will give a welcome boost to local tourism in the aftermath of Erawan Shrine bombing.

"Both players will go shopping at the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) hall in the afternoon of October 1 and they will meet PM Prayut Chanocha at Government House at 11am on October 2," said Suwat.

The Serb is due to arrive in Thailand on October 1 from Zurich at 9.30am along with a three-member entourage. Nadal is to touch down on the same day from Spain, also with a three-strong team , including coach and uncle Toni.

Both will hold a press conference at 2.30pm at the JP Marriot Hotel, where they will be staying. The following day, both will have a practice session at the stadium.

Prior to the DjokovicNadal match, a special mixed doubles exhibition match will serve as an official farewell event for Danai Udomchoke. Danai will pair with Noppawan Lertcheewakarn to play Paradorn Srichaphan and Tamarine Tanasugarn in a bestofninegame format.

The event will be broadcast live on True Vision's True4U (Channel 4 on True Vision, Ch 34 on satellite, and Ch 34 on cable), True Tennis HD (Ch 670), or True Anywhere App from 8.30pm.

Suwat says all 6,500 seats have been sold but the organisers are planning to add more to meet demand from ten

Am I to believe these guys are going to have a photo op with a coup leader, omg!

No, actually the coup leader is going to have a photo opp with two great tennis champions.

Next month we will see PM Prayuth dressed in tennis whites urging people to buy a racquet.

Though it would always be fun to see Novak and Nadal, two gentleman giants of the game play, for me the real treat would be Udomchoke, who has been Thailand's top player for awhile and Srichaphan, who was a great player and alot of fun to watch. Also a real gentleman and a great ambassador for Thailand.

Wow. Two of my Thai neighbours have just closed their businesses and sold their family cars because there have been zero tourists hereabouts for the last month. There were a few before the bomb and then nothing.

How will game of tennis help restart the economy.

Then again what do the elite Thais that comprise the Lawn Tennis Association care about life outside of Bangkok?
