That Wonderful Farang Road

I’m writing this topic due to sad event of a 74 year-old farang neighbor who’s heart-broken over a 27-year-old Thai girl, despite the precautionary warnings he received. He also has a 30 year-old grand-child, back home. Unbelievable! Anyway, here goes.

Gentlemen, I concur 100% that Thailand (like the Philippines) has some of the beautiful, most enticingly seductive womenfolk in Asia,…..to look at. However, both Thailas, and Filipinas are still female products of cultures deeply rooted in Asian traditional values.

Asian womenfolk are socialized (from birth) to serve a man, not to love him. Their “duty” is to remain steadfastly “loyal” to their family and to “serve” at the pleasure of the eldest male figure of that family unit.

Subsequently, when an Asian women becomes “seriously” involved with a westerner, it happens after permission for her to do so, is granted by that same (dominant) Elder-male figure of her family blood-line . There is always some Asian “guy” (hiding in the back-ground), e.g., a father, brother, uncle or “cousin”. And, the "permission” is typically granted only on condition that the “farang” in question has financially committed to provide an acceptable monthly stipend (via his girlfriend), to her family’s coffer.

Despite the limited quality level of a Thaila’s formal education, any foreigner coming to the LOS believing Thai bar-girls to be dim-witted and stupid, is due for a rude awakening. Your Thai gf is just your employee. If you're looking for a devoted friend in Thailand, then go buy a dog, instead. Then the rest of your Thai "trip" will be easy.

Now, beyond the “bar-girl-baht-fine-scene”, making the mistake of first “falling” in love, and then financially investing your hard-earned life-savings into the life of a beautiful Asian “lady”, is fool-hearty, without first consulty with a lawyer. If your prospective Thai GF doesn’t know how to dance the waltz, or expresses any interest in "learning how to dance the waltz with you, then walk away quickly. Otherwise she'll be nothing more than a total waste of your time, effort and money.

Making block-headed, foolish mistakes when one is a youngster, is expected. However, making those same mistakes when one is 60+ years-old, is just a pitiful tragedy.
