September 28, 201510 yr I am considering the viability of shipping household goods from Aus. to Chiangrai. I am getting quotes from a few companies and was looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through the process. Any recommendations for good reliable companies and peoples experiences would be most appreciated. One of the companies I am considering is " Affordable Shipping" - not sure if anyone has heard of them?
September 28, 201510 yr 1. They must be old and not new. 2. You must have the shipper deliver directly to Chiang Rai and pay the taxes in one price. Don't let him talk you of of this. 3. Even though you do number 2 the people in Bangkok will try to screw you. 4. If you could ship in the name of a Thai you would be a lot better off. Make sure you have everything documented line item by line item to reduce theft. One way or the other they will try to screw you in Bangkok.
September 28, 201510 yr In most cases it is just not worth it and can become a stress driven nightmare for you and the people around you.
September 28, 201510 yr We bought some furnishings and about 20 boxes from Cairns to Chiang Rai via Downard Pickfords, door to door literally. They packed it Australia and delivered it to our door in Chiang Rai. They dealt with ALL import paperwork and taxes, all included in the price. I would recommend that you give them a call. Our furnishings were old and new, because there is a Thai branch of Downards there was no problems. Both Aust and CR were careful polite and respectful to your things not one thing was damaged or broken .....
