September 28, 201510 yr Greetings, I'm currently a U.S. citizen studying at a university here in the Kingdom and I just received a very nice job offer. They've informed me that I will need to change my visa as I cannot work with my ED one. They have offered me all the necessary docs required for getting a business visa and will pay for obtaining a work permit. All that's left is for me to figure out how to do the conversion. - Would I be able to stay in country or will I have to fly out and go through the process at a Thai embassy? - I will need a Non-immagrant B visa, correct? - Am I required to cancel my student visa in order to make this work? - How quickly could I make this all happen? - If I need to fly, what embassy/country(s) is the best for this type of thing? Thanks!
September 29, 201510 yr You will have to leave and re-enter the country to cancel out your extension of stay based upon attending a university (not a visa) you obtained at an immigration office. You may even need to do that just to get a work permit application done which will retired to apply for the non-b visa at a nearby embassy or consulate. Many work permit offices will not accept a ED visa/extension to apply for one. There is no requirement for you to fly out to do it. You could do it overland. You may need to leave and re-enter the country to get a 30 day visa exempt entry to apply for the work permit. You could get your non-b visa in Vietntiane or Savannakhet Laos or Penang Malaysia.
September 29, 201510 yr Author Thanks! Provided I have all the right paperwork, do you have any idea how long I will need to get the new, B visa secured at that embassy before I head back? Once I have my new B visa, how long does it usually take to get the work permit?
September 29, 201510 yr At he locations I mentioned you apply for the visa the morning of one day and pick it up; the next afternoon. Since the work permit application will already of been done before you the non-b visa it should only be a short wait to get it issued.
