180 days in 12 months

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

I hold a french passport, i am on a single entry tourist visa and i really want to clarify one of the alien immigration law from Thailand in 2015. An easy question in fact : does the 180 days stay in 12 months 's law became effective or not ???

By the time my tourist visa is finished ( end of October) i would have stayed 5 months or something in Thailand ( starting from the first of January 2015) What kind of visa can i expect to receive from, let's say, Vientiane embassy ? Do i need to stay away 1 or 2 months and start all over again next year ( from the first of January) ???

Thanxxx

There is no "180day/12month" rule or law.

You can apply for any visa for which you are qualified.

Be aware that some Thai Embassies/Consulates limit the number of back to back visas they will issue , including Vientiane who will require evidence of adequate income from abroad if more than 3 tourist visas are applied back to back.

There is no such law or rule nor I have ever heard of one being proposed.

Just false info given out by an embassy and then spread as a baseless rumor.

I ubonjoe. I am French and can easily understand why French people ask about this kind of rules.

The Thai Embassy in Paris is extremely strict sad.png and applies many rules of its own.

By example, you must wait 3 months minimum after exiting Thailand to ask for a new Tourist Visa !

This is not far from "a 180 days in 1 year rule"... sad.png

No surprise then that French people ask about such rules in other Embassies.

thank everybody for responding.

Well, yes i did read a while ago about "180 days stay in 12 months " regulation, but you cannot see it anymore on the Thai embassy french web site .Everything changes very fast nowadays !!!

Anyway, let me put it another way : With an evidence of adequate income, can i apply for a double tourist visa entry ( and why not for the brand new "multiple entry" ) and stay until the end of the year ( 7 months in Thailand for a period of one year all together ) ??

I am not in that "back to back visas " situation cos i already stayed 5 months outside of Thailand this year, so i guess i won't have too much trouble to get a visa .

To answer mister pattaya 46 , i just hope that this arbitrary law ( you must wait 3 months minimum after exiting Thailand to ask for a new Tourist Visa ! ) is only valid "Rue de geuze", in Paris and no at Vientiane !!!!

Thanxxx

You would not be able to get a 2 entry tourist visa at the embassy in Paris. They do not do them.

The new multiple entry tourist visa is not going to be available until November (or probably later) and there are no rules yet for getting them.

You can get a 2 entry tourist visa in Vientiane with no financial proof needed. You can normally get up to 3 of them back to back which would give a total stay of almost 18 months.

And if, for what ever reason, they don't allow me a tourist visa from Vientiane embassy, what might be my solution. Get a 30 days exempt visa to re-enter in Thailand ???

It is very unlikely that you will be refused a visa based on what you have said.

A visa exempt entry would be given if you qualify.

Unless you have gotten 3 back to back tourist visa from Vientiane you will not have a problem getting one.

There would be no reason you would not get a visa exempt entry if needed.
