BANGKOK:-- Sand bars haves merged at several spots of the Chao Phraya river in Chainat province as water level continues to drop steadily.

Water level upstream of the Chao Phraya dam dropped 10 cm to 16.36 metres above mean sea level on Wednesday which was below standard storage volume whereas the water level downstream of the dam dropped 76 cms to 5.90 metres above means sea level.

The amount of water released from the dam has been reduced to 70 cubic metre per second resulting to the river downstream the dam becoming steadily shallower. As a consequence, sand bars have emerged in the river.

Mr Thirasak Khum-ngern, Chainat provincial agricultural official, said that despite the rainfalls to replenish water in the Chao Phraya river, the overall water situation in the country’s four main dams remains worrisome.

The Bhumibol dam, for an instance, holds 4,686 million cubic metres of water accounting for 35 percent of its full capacity but only 886 million cubic metres or 9 percent can be used.

Sirikit dam is 46 percent full and has 1,549 million cubic metres of water or 23 percent which can be used.

Mr Thirasak said that the water at the four dams will not be enough to support off-season rice cultivation.

so where are the pics of the sand bars. may as well put in a page 3 boob shot if they are not going to back up the story with the correct pics. These people really need to learn that a stories pics need to correlate with what it is about but then that would require someone with a a bit of knowledge or even be a real journalist

The government should go through all the hotels and give them an incentive to install water conservation devices. I noticed before I left my condo at view talay 5 a steady drop in the water pressure. However, so many hotels are old and fitted with inefficient devices. Such an easy thing I hope the pm tackles this like he did bike lanes or lottery ticket prices. At some point this has to be addressed as the elites that prop him up will be affected on some level unless they have their own water supply.

Here are some pictures of sandbars in the Nan river at Hua Dong in Phichit province I took today. The Nan is one of the 4 main tributaries of the CP along with the Ping, Wang & Yom.

If you want page 3 boobs see go-go bars not sand bars.

If this is a sign of things to come, unless we have substantial rainfall in the north in the next 6 weeks, the outlook for Bangkok and indeed Thailand for the next 9 months is quite gloomy when discussing water or shortage thereof.

Well the request for forgoing planting a second rice crop in Chiang Mai seems to have been ignored by many, paddy is being flooded from Ping in prepratation to transplanting plants already spouted and growing. Dont expect any great contribution to water supply fro conservation efforts up here as i see non taking place other than the drunk pissing in the gutter.
