I have the letter from the land office which I need to sign and have witnessed. I am in the UK and my Wife is in thailand at the moment, can I sign and get a witness here to sign then send back in the post? My wife says I have to have it signed by a witness at the thai embassy.

I would say that any witnesses will do as the land office will not know where the form was signed. It is also not a requirement that the witnesses be Thai. I am frequently a witness to documents presented to the land office and I am not Thai.

...I had to sign ours in front of head honcho at the local land department. I had to provide a copy of marriage certificate and passport.

Seems like there is a different set of rules depending upon where you are and who serves you at any government dept.

No harm in trying if it saves you the cost of an airfare
