Non O Visa for Retirement

Featured Replies

I have a 3 Month O Visa (converted from a visa on arrival) and need to go to CW soon to get this extended for a full year.

I will apply for the 'year extension' with Multiple entries. Once I have this extension, will I still need to apply for a Re-entry Permit whenever I leave Thailand? It seems like a bit inconvenient to keep getting Re-entry perrmits every time I want to leave Thailand, and I keep getting different answers on this so wonder if anybody can confirm what is correct?

If so, perhaps it is less hassle just to get a 6 month tourist visa from my home country....?

Thanks!

OK, I see that you have an O visa in your passport done as a conversion.

Next you will apply for an annual extension based on retirement.

If you plan to travel a lot during the one year stay this extension gives you, then you should apply (separately to the extension) for the multiple reentry permit. This gives you unlimited reentries during the one year stay, so NO, you won't need to apply for new ones during that time.

Another option is to apply for SINGLE reentry permits as you need them for travel. That's what I do.

If you're not travelling soon, you don't need to apply for either option at the time of the annual extension application. You can get the multiple later or single ones later as needed. You can also get singles as needed at the airport before departure.

  • You will apply for a 1 year extension of stay using form TM7.

Yes. Anytime you leave you need a re-entry permit to keep the stay alive.

Single re-entry permit is 1,000 baht and Multiple re-entry permit is 3,800 baht.

If you get a multi re-entry you can come and go as often as you like for the duration of your 1 year extension.

You can apply for a re-entry permit when you do the extension application, or at anytime during the 1 year from an immigration office or airport.

You cannot apply for an extension with multiple entries. You can get the extension and then apply for a multiple re-entry permit that will allow unlimited entries for the length of your extension.

No need for a new re-entry permit every time you leave.

The key thing here is that the extension application and the reentry permit (multiple or single) applications are SEPARATE applications.

The one year extension does not include any entries at all. You must submit a separate form to obtain a Single Re-Entry Permit (1,000 baht) or a Multiple Re-Entry Permit (3,800 baht). Or, you can wait until the need arises and purchase a Single just before you leave the country (including at the airport).

Ex-pats without particular travel plans often purchase a Single Re-Entry Permit when they renew their annual extension. It's reassuring to have, and if it never gets used then it's no big loss.

Thanks guys. So when I apply for the year extension next week, I can apply for the multiple re-entry permnit straight after whilst at CW? I intend to travel to UK later in October, and trips around Asia in the next few months....

To add, for the single entry permit applications (never applied for a multiple so don't know) they do ask you for your expected TRAVEL DATES. Do not worry about those dates (go ahead and make them up if you want to) as you are never held to them (they aren't written on the permit) but of course you need to leave and return during the current allowed stay for the reentry permit to have any validity.

Yes you can apply as soon as the extension is given.

As soon as your extension is approved and the stamp done you can then apply or the multiple re-entry permit.

You can do both during the same trip to CW. You will need a separate ticket for the re-entry permit and go down stairs after you have the extension stamp to make a copy of it for the application.

Can you get a re-entry permit at land crossing immigration post instead of getting it at the local immigration office?

The are a few of the major border crossings that have a re-entry permit desk.

Nong Khai, Aran/Poi Pet and perhaps Sadao have them.based upon reports I have seen,

Thank you ubonjoe
