American monk living in Thailand needs financial help after lifesaving surgery!

Hello,
My name is Hannah and my dad Glen Zorn moved to Thailand 9 years ago. A lifelong Buddhist, he was ordained as a monk last year and he now lives in a temple near Rayong. Two months ago he was diagnosed with a large and immediately life threatening abdominal aortic aneurysm. He had surgery to fix the aneurysm about a month ago, and all treatment was guaranteed to be free because he's a monk.

Buddhist Monks in Thailand don't keep money or possessions, and they're not allowed to have health insurance, so they're dependent on the temple where they live, and the hospital where they get treatment for any medical costs. My dad was told many times that it's standard practice in Thailand that medical care is free for monks.

Well, the hospital and my dad's temple both decided not to pay for his medical costs, but they did so after the surgery. Two days after the surgery they gave me (his daughter) a bill for almost $20,000 (700,000 baht), and told me it needed to be paid before he was discharged from the hospital. If it wasn't paid before he left the hospital he would be dis-robed as a monk and put in jail for non payment of a debt (we've now learned you can be jailed in Thailand for not paying a debt). We negotiated with the hospital and brought the bill down, I don't have enough money to pay the amount that they want, and they'll only take a lump sum. He is still hospitalized, he's developed a blood infection, but is due to be discharged next week.

I've started a Go Fund Me page, and I'm hoping to get the word out about this. Any amount any of you could give would be great, or even just a share on social media sites! The Go Fund Me page is:

Thank you!
