Lite Beer
Youth group in Uttaradit revs up rescue missionBOONPIM BAIYATHE SUNDAY NATIONUTTARADIT: -- A GROUP of volunteer-spirited youths from Uttaradit has raised Bt400,000 in a merit-making event to buy first-aid equipment and two all-terrain vehicles to be used for emergency relief work. The group's leader, Anuwat Thammajan, said along with the ATVs the money would be used to purchase an uninterruptible power supply source, cutters, spreaders and diving suits. The youth group is from Tambon Tha Sao, Muang district.Anuwat said the new emergency tools would allow volunteers to gain access to hard-to-reach areas to help people. He said the group would have extensive access to emergency situations such as "wading through mud and water to help people in need such as those in an accident or a natural disaster".The group has chosen an old building in front of Wat Aranyikaram as their coordination centre. Its 20 members have been trained to deliver first-aid by Uttaradit-based rescue workers and became rescue volunteers for the Tambon Tha Sao Municipality, while 100 other members help out in other disaster or danger prevention work, Anuwat said.He said it was good that young people paid attention to social service matters, as this made them aware of dangers and helped them become responsible and generous people.
