Search for Finest Rice Underway

The Cambodia Rice Federation is selecting one type of fragrant rice to compete in the 7th World Rice Competition in Kuala Lumpur at the end of this month, senior members of the association said.

Federation vice president Hun Lak said it is calling for millers across the country to submit their finest rice. It will then test the quality, attractiveness and taste of each one. About 10 companies submit fragrant rice to the federation for evaluation and classification, Mr. Lak said. All are submitting rice types for the competition and it is possible that other milling companies will do so too, he added.

“All companies are required to submit their premium rice and follow the conditions that the federation wants. We require the most recently harvested high-quality rice,” he said, adding that the rice must have been harvested early this year or late last year and stored appropriately.
