I have just finished working on my project and so entered the country with a couple of days spare on 30 day stamp. If I am to stay longer, I have been told to change my visa type to non-imm O as I am married and also over 50 so could get a retirement visa. I have booked a flight to Vietnam for the purposes of applying for non-imm O 90 days so that when the time is right I can apply for either marriage visa or retirement visa.

I went to immigration at Jomtien today and to ask what I was required to take to Thai Embassy in Hanoi and was told two different things.I looked on Thai Embassy Website and also found conflicting info.

Please can anyone help me. I have marriage certificate, also house book and her id, and money in the bank, but also someone told me that I need a letter from wife too - is that true because not heard of that before and immigration tell me different things.

Surely law is law and same conditions should apply where ever, but Thai immigration and Thai Website do not match up.

I dont want to waste the cost of flight and hotel rooms for 1 week only to come back empty handed

Please TV help !

Normal at most location is your marriage certificate plus a copy. signed and dated copies of you wife's house book and ID card. Some places do ask for letter from your wife requesting they issue the visa. I don't recall any reports for getting a non-o at the embassy in Hanoi so not sure if they have any other requirements.

Requirements at Thai embassies and consulates can vary at each one. Thai immigration is not the best place to ask about those requirements.

I have no idea if Hanoi issue non-O visas .

However to secure an "O" visa based on retirement you will need to prove 800,000 Baht in a Thai Bank or an income of 65,000 baht/month income. For a visa based on marriage, the marriage certificate + a copy, copy of your wife's ID card and housebook

If, for any reason, you need more time before leaving to get your new visa you can extend your current 30 day stay by 60 days based on being married (1,900 baht).
