So by definition this would mean that the court thinks thaksin was planning to become president and thus was planning an act of lese majeste? U can accuse someone of lese majeste but this doesn't impinge their reputation?

What a gordian knot that is.....

It seems to me that the incessant need to take someone to court over "defaming" King and the King's men is a terrible waste of time and valuable resources...

Just get over it...watch a few Thai soaps to satisfy your lust for senseless trivia...

"a sincere expression of opinion"

ah right that's ok then... the whole country can now have "a sincere expression of opinion" no more attitude adjustment camps so that's good news! right???

The whole country doesn't fit in the parliament building and isn't protected by an MP status. Outside that parliamentary immunity one should be a wee bit careful with what one says. That is not really specific Thailand though, other countries may only just pick you up when it's reported by 'sincere' members of the public that you talked about 'usurping' or 'violence'.

Posted

Hmmmm and yet when Thaksin made a comment and personal opinion about a certain member of the privy council it was different?

At least it's now been laid to rest and that Thaksin doesn't want to be President as the courts have agreed otherwise wink.png

These defamation laws and the entire judicial system seem to be missing in terms of reforms, heaven forbid the ability to take action to knobble your political opponents !!

Serious reforms are needed to stop the rich and powerful from being above the law.

Actually the court only agreed that the opinion expressed by Suthep cannot be seen as defamation. The court didn't say anything about whether or not Thaksin wants to be president.

Gee, what a surprise. NOT!

Absolutely!

Justice has prevailed. At least that's what I assume you tried to express.

Gee, what a surprise. NOT!

Better off to bet that the sun will not come up tomorrow. Teflon Mr. Suthep. Might as well cancel any other outstanding charges against him. Reminds me of the movie The Sting.

Posted

How could anyone, even a slimy worm like Suthep, possibly defame a rotten, lowdown skunk like Thaksin ??? Cannot believe this defamation charge even reached the court, even in the Land of Litigation.

................."Thaksin then designated a lawyer to sue Suthep of violating Sections 326, 328 of the Criminal Code.".............................

Which is fitting, as they are both criminals, in their own way. thumbsup.gif

OK got it. 2 low-life. Only one has conviction while the other is and will be always be protected. Technically only one is a criminal while the other has a laundry list of charges but never convicted or even banned from politics. whistling.gif

So good to see you finally got it Eric. I was getting a bit worried there for a while, did not think you were ever going to wrap your head around it.

Suthep is laughing at the moment but when the Shins get back in to power, when it is their turn at the trough, he will be a worried man.

The Shins will do exactly the same as what the Junta is doing now, and the TVF Shin lovers will be defending their actions with cries of - "But, but, the Junta" !...................the reds will slither out of their holes and run amok, and their actions will be defended as well, and so on and so on and so on.............................................................

That's the reasonable, obvious and intelligent inference aussie but they will twist and turn the rules and law to suit their nefarious purposes

this will go on and on until, finally, the Thai people will have had enough but that day is far ahead... alas...

Funny, but every time there is a topic about Thaksin or little sister being hard done by the same old usual suspects come out with the same old tired and worn out complaints about injustice, the Thaksins being picked on, Suthep being above the law, etc etc etc.

Guess what ? It is getting you nowhere, Thaksin is still on the run avoiding the Thai prison cell that awaits him, Yingluck is still waiting to be grilled by the courts, and Suthep is living it up laughing at the pair of them.

All your hollow complaints do is give some of us something to laugh at. clap2.gif

A good post. All these posters ranting about Suthep is quite a change from those who were supporting him when he got rid of this shins. Now they're all calling him stupid names and making groundless accusations too, but I guess they must be redshirt supporters who are very upset that he achieved what he set out to do. He still has tremendous support in Thailand and it would not surprise me to see him as Prime Minister one day. Maybe he should sue all the ranters for defamation

He's a filthy skunk, as bad as the rest of them if not worse

Among the most despicable of his crimes include being in charge of distributing land between some poor farmers and he gave it to his millionaire friends around 2009 I believe

He also scammed hundreds of millions in a dodgy palm oil deal when he was in charge of that and he also happened to own the refinery to process it and sell it back to the govt at a hugely inflated price ...

Allegdely gave his sons over 100 million each when the pdrc was collecting money in bkk rally.....

Need I go on?

Still want him for Pm?

Granted that this is Wikipedia

"As part of the Sor Por Kor 4-01 (สปก.4-01) land reform scheme, Suthep gave title deeds to 592 plots of land in Khao Sam Liam, Kamala and Nakkerd hills of Phuket province to 489 farmers. It was later found that members of 11 wealthy families in Phuket were among the recipients."

So from a total of 489 farmers ONLY 11 were wealthy. That sort of contradicts a little of what you believed.

Suthep addressed a huge crowd in his Surat Thani constituency a month before a no-confidence debate and called on his supporters to march on Bangkok in the hundreds of thousands to defend his reputation.[8] The scandal led Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai of the Democrat Party to dissolve the House of Representatives in July 1995 in order to avoid the no-confidence debate.[9] In subsequent elections, Thai Nation Party won a majority, leading to the downfall of Chuan Leekpai's Democrat Party-led government.

I am not defending nor attacking him but simply doing the most basic search which anyone can do rather than relying on memory or on what someone else says without checking.

Yellow law.

As long as this 'Yellow law' remains supreme, Suthep despite being probably the most corrupt politician in Thailand, will never be found guilty of anything

Posted

If Thaksin feels he was wrongly convicted- he is free at any time to return to Thailand. A Thai citizen cannot be denied entry to Thailand. Let him come back, face the courts, use his billions to hire the best lawyers. If he is innocent, what is he afraid of? He claims he has millions of supporters here in Thailand.

Thaksin is not free to return to Thailand at any time, because he will be arrested by the junta who helped convict him on 'trumped up' charges and found him guilty by selected court officials in a political move to get rid of this popular elected PM. It was the only way that they had any hope of removing him.

Not true at all.

A poor try at dis-information.

He went to court, was tried and convicted under a government run by his brother in law, Somchai Wongsawat. He posted bail and fled when the same PPP government was in power.

He also resigned as PM in front of the highest person in the land and took the position back 6 weeks later but was never confirmed as PM by the highest person in the land.

There are also a further 15 criminal charges outstanding against him and THAT is the main reson he will not return to Thailand.

Of course, what a brilliant system it whereby you can have bail for a conviction under appeal. If ever there was a way to benefit the rich who of course can post bail over the poor who can't this is it.

Insane system.

Ah, the redefinition of the past. The political motivated case some call it which sound better than this 'trumped up' charges bit. Strictly speaking it was just a 'too rich to need to be corrupt' PM who couldn't help himself and had to do business either himself or his legal wife. Pity this poor Amply Rich fellow.

Of course there are a good dozen cases waiting for his return. The most clear seems the 2 billion Baht he had a State bank lent to Myanmar so they could buy services from one of his companies. PM for all Thai, taking care of himself, family and cronies. Allegedly of course.

Quote "Among the most despicable of his crimes include being in charge of distributing land between some poor farmers and he gave it to his millionaire friends around 2009 I believe".

Perhaps you believe incorrectly. Try looking here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suthep_Thaugsuban

Well, if he only stole some of the land for his wealthy influencntial friends in the south that makes him a good guy then... smile.png

At least he didnt steal All of it lol...

Btw... It doesn't say every family got am equal sized plot.... What's betting his wealthy friends got the best/largest allocations?

Instead of ranting on why don't you do some research about it. Trawl the internet, dig around a little, you may find what you are looking for and then again you may not.

If you read my post I didn't say if he was a good guy or not. I have no idea who got what size or how many plots. Why don't you look it up for all of us. All you have is words and accusations with nothing to support you.

I've read a lot about his dealings over the years

(I am of the opinion that he is an unsuitable candidate to lead the Thai people based on that )

perhaps you should learn to Google more before defending him

Ps. The land scheme wasn't the only one...

I am not defending him.

I merely pointed out what I found on Google.

Perhaps YOU should do some research and post your findings just as I did.

Now if you have the proof of all his crimes why don't you send it to the PM/government and I am sure that they will take notice and IMO the PM is not overly impressed with Suthep and he may welcome anything to nail Suthep.

Anything read on Google by me or you would be random hearsay and therefore not admissible in a court... Like we matter :)

If the pm chooses to nail anyone at the moment he has the power to do so

Not unlike many western nations in that respect, if you can afford a shitload of bail money most judges will not keep you remanded in jail pre trial

I meant that they bailed thaksin after his conviction, and willfully let him leave.
