Is it possible to get an ED Visa, and take English lessons?

I don't want to learn Thai, as I heard Immigration may 'test' you on your progress etc.

Thanks

you seem to be looking for anyway to stay in Thailand, marriage, start up a business, now the ED Visa for English.

If I remember correctly you are Canadian, French or English? If English, why would you need to learn English.

Why not try Muay Thai, or Diving or cooking? Remember any school you attend must be approved by the Ministry of

Education.

Yes it is possible but do you need to?

Will "learning" English assist in you marrying the "hi-so" G/F or setting up the "company" which will employ unpaid Thais or perhaps help in securing the "easily" borrowed 10 million for the investment "visa" ?

This will probably turn into one of "those" threads" !

I am a native speaker. I want to 'study' something that requires the least amount of effort. And if Immigration were to test me on my English skills to ensure I'm going to classes or whatever, I would have no issues.

Oh, I wasn't aware you could get an ED Visa for non academic activities. Thanks for letting me know. Is there a list of these eligible activities anywhere?

Learning English would help me reach the desired outcome, obtaining a Visa that would allow me to open up bank accounts, get a driver's license, insurance etc.

The goal is to achieve said Visa in the easiest and cheapest way possible. And perhaps sitting in an English class for 5 hours a week satisfies this objective.

ED visas are only available if a course is approved by the MOE. Very few (if any) non academic courses will have such approval.

Anything, including English can be studied in Thailand on any type of "visa"

Slightly off topic, but what's the definition of 'working' here?

In previous threads, I had mentioned that I own a company overseas. I don't actually do any work per se, at this company. So my income from that job is similar to a pension income, or dividend income.. It is passive. I maybe check emails a couple times per week, to communicate with my accountant in regards to this business.

So am I working as per Thai law?

No its not working the time spend is minimal. Imagine all the tourists that would be in trouble then for checking their business email. Besides who cares nobody will check it anyway.

easiest way is Elite visa if you don't qualify for other things, not cheap but no hassle with immigration no house checks like for retirement or marriage. No hassle of setting up a company. If you look at it at a 5 year term its not that much.

Thanks. When I was in Penang, I used a Visa service to get a new tourist visa. So I didn't need to go to the consulate/embassay. Is this legal?

If so, what stops people from Fedex'ing their passport from Thailand to Penang, to have a visa service do this for you, and then Fedex it back?

Another "illegal" suggestion!

How, assuming you did this, would the exit/entry stamps from Thailand and the entry/exit stamps from Malaysia get into the passport ?

OK good point.

I lived in Mexico, and the immigration officer would come to my house with a stamp and provide such service for $50. I'm surprised this isn't common here as well. I'm actually surprised how little corruption there is in this country, contrary to most of your opinions suggesting otherwise.

Correct

Syke, you seem to be either trolling or low on money. If your that low on money its hard to stay here just go back. Just flying around getting some tourist visa's should be ok though I have my doubts about living long term on a tourist visa here.

Some claim to do it but sounds like a lot hassle and risk.

I'm not sure which part of my comment you deem as trolling.

I have just noted that in the forums on TV, there seems to be constant talk about the police and tea money on every thread. I am just surprised there aren't many similar services which are popular, and tolerated, regarding this..

I do not have any moral issues with corruption, though it seems everybody else here believes it is bad and/or wrong, and since I have no problems with it, I'm a bad person.

Corruption equals convenience.. Most people that are my age, 34, have no problems with the trade-off.

I suspect most TV members are older and retired, so perhaps there is some sort of generational issue that I'm not comprehending.

You mention passive income. Is this code for income where you don't pay tax. One more question. You mention your debt to Canadian government for course fees. Is it true that if you stay overseas for certain amount of time it's wiped. Just trying to cut to chase. Especially the topic you posted on sinsod. So many threads on tv on this. Not rocket science.
