Ladies Watch. Opinions Please

Featured Replies

I have been asked by a Thai lady friend to bring her a watch as a token gift when I come to Thailand and would like some idea on style.

I do not really know if it should be something dressy or something more functional especially as it is for a Thai who doesn not own a watch. I'd also hate to think I'd bought something that she would not be happy to wear so I would value your input. TIA.

Hopefully the pictures attached might help as a guide.

Watch 3 has 3 faces that can be changed over.

i like the first one

A gold one.

water resistant is key. I would go for something that she can dress up or down, too dressy and she won't wear it often.

I'm not a Thai lady but a quick comment on the second watch. It's gorgeous BUT the trouble with those kind of watches is that if you need to adjust the circumference of the wristband, you can only do so in big jumps because of the size of the links - so it could end up being too loose or too tight and not able to be adjusted much.

I'm not Thai, either, but I like the third one.

How old is this Thai lady? I have noticed among young Thai ladies -say, 30 and under- a liking for things that would be considered overly "cutesy" in the US. Like "Hello Kitty" auto seat covers and handbags. You might ask the lady to be a bit more specific. Does she want a timepiece or a fashion accessory?

Seems a bit too designer - think more simplistic/classic. Remember Thai ladies have very small wrists. :o

SWATCH are making classier watches now and they aren't too expensive either.

What style does she usually wear?

Thanks for the input to date.

She is 45, works for a living earning 4k baht p.m. and from Nakhon Sawan area.

She has no watch at all from what I understand.

My problem is that if this was for an English lady I would have no problem as I would have seen what she likes.

Not really understanding Thai fashion, jewellry, accessories is the main reason I am asking for comments.

If their wrists are very small then I could maybe go with a more functional watch with an expanding bracelet.

As for asking her what sort of watch, I would like it to be a surprise. She does seem to have forgotten that she asked for one and it seems to me a watch for someone who does not have one would be better than, say, flowers.

Do I read 'Constant' on the watch?

If it's a Frederique Constant - Geneve, it's a good choice. Swiss-made.

I think you have to be careful with anything not gold. Most (I said most :D ) Thais I know over a certain age do not like silver or plaitnum & an older lady would most likely prefer a gold watch so I say the one in the last post is best :o

Thanks for that. I'll bear it in mind when I decide which one to buy :D

I agree, for an older lady the last watch is the better option. Classy and elegant (but make sure it is water resistant--with the heavy rains and humidity its necessary).

I'm not sure if the Lady (she's 45.....) would appreciate you calling her 'old' :o

But. you're right, the last watch is 'classy and elegant' but also 'old fashioned'; Ladies in their forties, nowadays....even in LOS, like more fashionable watches.

They do read and watch magazines and TV you know and they know what's going on in fashion.....they sure do.

(my comment is a bit of a contrast to what I wrote earlier, but I had a closer look again today :D )

The choices are numerous:

Well, shes not that much older than me, so I think I can say "older lady" is better than "young girl". Women's tastes change as they age (or they should --nothing worse than a 45 year old woman dressing like a 19 year old). I certainly consider myself "older" than a 22 year old :o

I agree that the last watch is the best choice. It's gold, it's a classic look, it's versatile enough to be worn with both casual and dressy outfits, and it looks feminine without looking flimsy. I admit to having conservative taste, but I do like that watch, and I am not too far off the age of the lady in question.

As I would rather get her something that she will like and wear, reading the comments has been really helpful especially about styles, humidity, fashions etc. Thanks for that.

Old? Oh boy..... I am definitely keeping out of that one except to say - Never ask a woman her age and if she asks how old you think she looks take at least 5 years off what age she looks and then tell her. Diplomacy is better than a slap in the face ..... I think. :o

Seriously. I do appreciate the comments made here. It is nice to have helpful people about :D
