Transport minister is confident Thailand’s air safety standards will pass FAA tests



BANGKOK: -- Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisit is confident that the Thai aviation standards will pass the tests of the US Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA team will be in Thailand during October 26-28 to review Thailand’s air safety progress after Thailand was given 65 days to make improvements of air safety standards.

Minister Arkhom said Thursday that authorities had rectified all the problems raised by the FAA namely updating of laws and regulations and safety manuals regarding air safety as well as recruitment of qualified staffs from the Royal Thai Air Force.

He, however, said that the measures already taken were just short-term and longer-term measures such as staff recruitment would follow.

The transport minister further said that the ministry had stepped up efforts to amend the announcement regarding the civil aviation office to accommodate with the expansion of aviation industry.

This is serious stuff, Mr. Minister. The Yanks don't understand compliments such as "you have lovely white skin" or "don't worry".

I just hope that at least one of the inspectors is a woman, so when the men get taken to the bars, one of them will be "sober".

I strongly feel the results of nepotism, bought degrees and positions are glaringly evident here. Many/most of the statements/actions of individuals in "lofty" positions are mind-boggling.

So they hired some fill in guys from the airforce. I guess Kosan Road provided the certificates.

The measures taken were only short term says it all , another Thai fast track project , one fails to see how the DCA ever got into this position and unless you are more capable of conforming to international regulations you might not be looked at so favorably next time , you would think that a country that boasts of 30 million tourists would have a first class DCA, there seems to be this constant failing in key area's of Thai administrations and if I was PM Prayut - O I'd be more concerned with just what direction the country is heading in instead of worrying about students and people on social media making jokes about the Junta, there is a systematic critical failure in the Mining , Environment, Health and aviation administrations their rules and regulations, one doesn't need to bring up building construction bylaws,as there isn't any and forget about road construction and design or electrical street and house insulation regulations, that's my observations over a 35 year period.

So, in lieu of employing qualified staff from the international arena, they opted for Thai airforce personnel...ok.......

I can't see the inspectors having much confidence in this move........even if they state that it is only a short term fix for now when short term fixes here in Thailand most likely end up a permanent solution.....as it's easy.

Why do these spokespersons keep on coming out with 'we're confident' statements. We've heard it all before, they were 'confident' they'd be lifted from the 3rd tier of the TTP report, it didn't happen, they're 'confident' about the fishing industry on which the juries still out.

Just get on with the job and forget about limelighting yourself in useless press interviews.

Why does the phrase "famous last words" pop into one's mind ?

Is this perhaps the same Ministry which is confident that the long-planned 3rd-runway & new extension-terminal at Swampy are underway and on-schedule, or that the high-speed rail-link to/from China will be up-and-running within just a few years ?

Actions speak louder than words. We have all heard the PR talk which means nothing at all but when are concrete actions going to be forthcoming?

Lets hope that after the air safety passes ( or not ) They can get someone to look into the road transport safety issues. i.e.- bus travel / minivan travel.

The key point in this issue is that it wasn't so much the individual airlines at fault, rather a failing of the government to maintain a proper level of control over the industry.

They are 'political' appointments, this is nothing new, or particularly Thai.

Thankfully, the worker bees usually know what they are doing, or talking about, and they're the ones that fly the planes, heal the sick, grow the food, and even pick up the trash.

If we footsoldiers were as utterly hopeless as the political elites in ANY country, the planet would be in even more of a chaotic mess than they've already managed to make it.

Granted, they do take leadership incompetence to towering heights here, despite fierce competition from their global peers.

The FAA will be back, they will have to follow through, because this is not going to be a set and forget inspection. Aviation safety culture is constant, evolving, cyclic, and almost impossible to fudge. It either passes muster, or it does not, based on a set of universal checks and balances. It is the pinnacle of logical thinking, and it learns and evolves from every error. Aviation self-corrective and cross-checking techniques are so well developed that the medical fraternity adopted them to reduce screw ups in hospitals and theatre.

If the Transport Minister is confident, that is a start. 1 down, 70,000,000 to go.

Oh, these blokes are always confident.....at the beginning of any quarrels (remember EU or UN).....and then they are very much surprised and upset because nobody could understand Thailand...
