Interior Minister represents Thailand at World Humanitarian Summit Global Consultation

BANGKOK, 23 October 2015 (NNT) – The Interior Minister recently represented Thailand at the World Humanitarian Summit Global Consultation.

Interior Minister Gen. Anupong Paochinda led a team of Thai delegates to attend the World Humanitarian Summit Global Consultation, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland where the topic of the global community’s standards in tackling humanitarianism-related problems was the theme.

At the summit, which was held from October 14 to 16, Gen. Anupong delivered a speech in which he assured the international community that Thailand has always recognized the importance of solving social inequality through initiatives such as the promotion of equal access to resources and social services, the building of awareness on safety and the strengthening of broad cooperation both at regional and international levels.

More than 1,000 representatives from all over the globe attended the World Humanitarian Summit Global Consultation, including national leaders, private groups, and civic groups.

The conclusions from the summit will be presented at the World Humanitarian Summit 2016, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey on November 23 and 24.

"A man was arrested on Tuesday after police found 486,000 yaba pills..."

Actually it was 500,000 yaba pills. Guess who consumed the other 14,000?

For those of you who are interested, below is a copy of the full speech that Gen. Anupong delivered.

To think he lead a team of Thai delegates to Geneva for this? Even managed to get "stronger together" in it.

Without seeming facetious, it would have been cheaper to do a video link, or better still deliver it by mail!

On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I would like to take this opportunity, at the World Humanitarian Summit Global Consultation, to emphasize Thailand’s support on the following issues:

1. Partnership: when it comes to the natural disasters, we have learned that no country, no matter what level of development, can tackle these problems alone. By working together, we can effectively mitigate the effects of conflict and disasters. We strongly support the building of partnership in preparing for disaster response both at international level and national
level. The strong partnership at every levels, especially between civilian and military as well as private sector, will lead to a more cohesive response capacity and disaster risk management.

2. The second is building resilience, as we face the increasing new threats such as natural disaster and climate change, we should prepare ourselves by investing in preparedness, managing and mitigating risks, reducing vulnerability, and engaging communities. Investment in disaster risk reduction and empowering as well as engaging communities are the keys. Thailand is committed to implement Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction.

To this end we all are having the same goal of protecting the lives, livelihood, and hard-won development gains of our people from the effects of natural disasters. We are neighbors helping neighbors; friends helping friends. We are stronger together and Thailand is confirming her commitment in making humanitarian assistance better.

"Thailand is confirming her commitment in making humanitarian assistance better."

So long as the rest of the world keeps the pressure on Thailand to do so.
