Princess awards Krabi hero
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A local fisherman whose heroic rescue of two foreign birdwatchers stuck in mud went viral on the Net has been recognised by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha's royal initiative "Khon Dee Thee Rao Yokyong".

The ceremony was held yesterday in the southern province, with Krabi public prosecutor Chaiwat Suwanyod presenting Chat Ubonjinda, 44, with a jacket, hat and bell. The princess' project highlights people who assist others.

On October 16, Chat was fishing in Krabi River when he spotted a Norwegian couple stuck in thigh-high mud and saved them by letting them step on him to get out. Once they were safe, he got in his boat and left. Someone shot a video of the rescue and posted it online, resulting in a search to find the hero.

Chat has received widespread praise.
