My current tourist visa (Thai visa #1) is expiring soon and I will go to Burma or Laos to apply for a new one (single entry).

Do I need to stay in the 2nd country for a minimum period of time before either:

a. Applying for a new tourist visa at the foreign consulate.

b. Re-entering Thailand with a new tourist visa from the foreign consulate.

(I vaguely remember hearing 7 days and 14 days thrown around in visa discussions, but don't remember the context.)

I know this is a common question, but I'm posting because I couldn't find the answer in site search results.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Their is no rule that you have to stay out of the country any amount of time to get another tourist visa.

There are a few odd embassies and consulates that have their own rule for it.

There are no "minimum stay" requirements.

Thanks for the help. So in theory I could go to country #2, get a new tourist visa at the consulate, and return to Thailand a few days later?

How much longer are you planning to stay?

If you need less than 30 days you could extend your current stay at immigration by 30 days for 1,900 baht. (assuming you haven't already done so.)

I'm staying for more than 30 days and I already extended my current stay. Thanks for the tip anyway!
