Having a look for somewhere nice for New Year and came across Labua. Couldn't believe the prices so asked was there a mistake. No there wasn't.

Hi Sean. On December 31, we will have special dining offers for our guests. Here are the available options at our Dome restaurants that you can choose from: Mezzaluna (Modern innovative 9-course menu) - THB 30,600.82 net per person ....Sirocco (Fine Mediterranean 8-course menu) - THB 25,892.82 net per person Breeze (Sumptuous Asian 8-course menu) - THB 28,246.82 net per person Distil (Tantalizing international 8-course menu) - THB 21,184.82 net per person

So there you have it.....€750 euro per person for a meal which equates to approx €100 euro per course.!!! Don't all rush to book a table.

Are they mad?

ps....any ideas for a really nice night with ace food??

it is expensive but your 100 euro assesment is a joke

????????

Eight courses @ €750 a head. = €93.75 a course.

Should I get my money back from my Maths teacher??? Or should you?

you should get your money back from your reading teacher. 8 courses for 100 euro is a joke

Did a little more searching cound some old posts from 2013. Restaurant Guy Savoy , Paris. New Years Eve €500 per person. Never been there but it seems somehow pretentious that such valuations can be assumed to be resonable when well in excess of Michelin starred restaurants in the world's most expensive locations which require reservations months in advance. The utter greed never ceases to boggle.

Labua is fishing for whales...

Do you really want to spend New Year Eve with that type of crowd?

Outdoor dining on New Year Eve at one of the 5 star places along the river would be a lot more interesting I bet.

You probably want to avoid the traffic jams so a place near the BTS or river would work.

The ShangriLa is right next to the BTS.

The Oriental, Hilton, Peninsula to name a few have river taxi from BTS. Nice way to arrive for a special evening.

Thanks RR.....for the tips. Have eaten in all mentioned.

I did ask in my post if anyone has suggestions but got hit on for all kinds of reasons.

Replies did not, and could not, justify the price of €1,500 for one meal for two people with no wines included for a restaurant with not even one Michelin star.

Funny....Marriott if memory serves me right had a v good buffet, and reasonable. But for NYE??

There is no need to justify the price. Obviously there will be a bunch of Sheiks, casino tycoons and red bull heirs up there this year. They aren't looking for people that are going to check their change when it is presented after paying. Remember Thai people actually brag they paid twice the price of Europe for their Ferraris. I don't think it is sarcastic to suggest they are actively pricing people out.

So Lebua is too expensive, the Oriental is not up to your standards, I am not sure anybody can really help you choose where to eat. What is your criteria, so it can be limited down? The word nice is sort of vague. Nobody has any idea of what you actually want? Give a price range you can justify and a type of cuisine or atmosphere you would like to dine in. You seem to be actively seeking out the most expensive places in Bangkok and then complaining about prices.

Artur, NY Steakhouse JW Marriott, Nahm, Le Beaulieu.

It is beginning to sound like you really want to eat at Lebua but can't justify the price to yourself. If not why is it such a concern to you what they are charging? If you are looking for a place to be seen and a terrific atmosphere you probably would be hard pressed to beat Lebua. That is what they are charging for. Name one better place to view the fireworks on NYE. Better food probably exists at dozens of places but name a better location.

The set menu prices you will find probably won't even get you preferential service. That will be for the people that are guaranteed to drop well over $10,000 or much more. The average Joe off the street will end up being seated near the toilets, preferably out of sight. The menu prices aren't even scratching the surface of what is expected to be spent to go up there.

I can just picture Jed Clampett taking his missus up for a special night out.

Thanks AU for your input...very helpful..

There are more restaurants in Bangkok than Labua and the Oriental. And NO....I don't have a particular fancy to eat in Labua as my post didn't say anything as such. In fact if you read it properly, which you didn't, I never indicated any desire to eat there....just blew off about the price.

Yes. Labua at €1,500 for two for a meal for me is too expensive...what about you? From your defence of the price I guess this in your normal price range? Lucky guy you.

Will you be one of the lucky ones to watch the fireworks from the top?

Bit of a nasty boy are we?...I can just picture Jed Clampett taking his missus up for a special night out.

Was this directed at me and my partner?

I had no idea who this was as I don't watch programmes that would numb my brain. Hope you enjoy the re runs.

I never indicated any desire to eat at Labua....merely pointed out their absurd prices and you get yourself all in a huff.

Is this, because of your defence of the price, your usual dining place? Lucky guy you!

Me? I could never justify a meal for two, whatever the occasion or wherever the restaurant, at €1,500 plus wines. So we really are talking about €1,800 for two.

Better/equal location? Any of the Sky bars.

Anyway thanks for your valued input...it has indeed been enlightening.

I just listed a few others for you to consider....

I could splurge on it if I want to but wouldn't bother. If I really wanted to go experience it I would just go on any other night. I will not be watching the fireworks from the top but you don't see me complaining either. The HISO don't want to rub elbows with me and the feeling is mutual.

My second choice would be anywhere along the river to spend that evening. You don't like the Oriental although there is more than one restaurant. How about Shangri La?

For this reason it isn't great value for me but I am not the target demographic. You still haven't given any real indication of what you are looking for. If the thread is no longer about the prices of Lebua what are you looking for? I listed some other places that many people would love to eat at.

If you are looking for more casual dining almost anywhere in the city suffices.

No the Jed Clampett comment was more of a sentiment of what the people at the Lebua would think of most people not in their clique. It was meant as a joke but you seem to be bent out of shape and haven't listened to any suggestion offered so I will just assume there was no point in this thread other than to complain about the Lebua.

My post was simply about the horrendous cost of a meal for two. I never wanted to eat there...it was just one place we happened upon from a search.

Complaining? Well yes....about the price. I have never ever seen such a price for two people anywhere in the world. I eat out a lot....like a lot. From street food to three star Michelin.

Suggestions taken on board....as did already with BKK.

Anyway...enjoy your NYE wherever that may be.

We'' keep on checking for somewhere that is a little more realistic.
