BANGKOK: -- A wild bull elephant went ferocious chasing motorists and villagers in Kaeng Harng Maew district of Chanthaburi yesterday, and destroying a pickup truck with its tusks.

Nobody was injured by the elephant which wildlife sanctuary officials said is a 10-year old adult elephant they called it “Plai Nga Bid”.

The incident was reported to wildlife officials by a local councillor of Tambon Khun Chong that a wild elephant has strayed out its herd and fine wild chasing villagers and motorists at Ban Klongyai Thai village.

Officials rushed to the scene where they met a rubber tapper who said he narrowly escaped death when the elephant attacked his pickup truck.

He said the elephant charged at his truck with tusks piercing through the side windshield and using its trunk to pull the truck to crash on a tree.

Officials said they were assessing damages caused by the elephant in order to seek remedy for the villagers and were also finding measures to stop the elephants from coming close to the villages from the Sip Hachan national park.

The troubled elephant has returned to the national park, officials said.

Maybe some elephant phycologist can calm the angry beast, and we all live in peace until the next time a vehicle drives by and shows no respect to the elephant and is seen as a threat, did the car driver antagonise the confrontation by not listening and watching for the signs of elephant warning to back off

It almost seems like the elephants have access to TV and Youtube, and are as fed up with Thai driving habits as most expats are.

GO ELEPHANTS!!!

Upon further reflection, if the truck driver had access to unfettered news (and/or paid attention to any news), he would have known that a humble "wai" would have stopped the attack.

Do not mess with a bull elephant when he is horney. Mother nature is telling his he needs love. and do not get in his way.

You must be kidding right? Psychologist for the driver perhaps? If these people live there they should know the rules of the jungle or else stay away.

Looking at the condition of his vehicle before the attack , I would say the Elephant has caused at least 150 bahts worth of damage.smile.png

Bull elephants can be very dangerous during the mating season which would account for it's actions. Or maybe it had just had an arguement with its girl friend who knows

If the bull thought the pickup was a female, he might need some glases.
